To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Read the address into an array on the stack, then call eth_hw_addr_set(). This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. 2021-07-27dev_ioctl: split out ndo_eth_ioctlArnd Bergmann1-1/+1
Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP. Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands. This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find their way through the implementation. 2020-09-25drivers/net/ethernet: clean up mis-targeted commentsJesse Brandeburg1-1/+2
As part of the W=1 cleanups for ethernet, a million [*] driver comments had to be cleaned up to get the W=1 compilation to succeed. This change finally makes the drivers/net/ethernet tree compile with W=1 set on the command line. NOTE: The kernel uses kdoc style (see Documentation/process/kernel-doc.rst) when documenting code, not doxygen or other styles. After this patch the x86_64 build has no warnings from W=1, however scripts/kernel-doc says there are 1545 more warnings in source files, that I need to develop a script to fix in a followup patch. 2020-07-30sis900: use generic power managementVaibhav Gupta1-16/+7
Drivers using legacy power management .suspen()/.resume() callbacks have to manage PCI states and device's PM states themselves. They also need to take care of standard configuration registers. Switch to generic power management framework using a single "struct dev_pm_ops" variable to take the unnecessary load from the driver. This also avoids the need for the driver to directly call most of the PCI helper functions and device power state control functions, as through the generic framework PCI Core takes care of the necessary operations, and drivers are required to do only device-specific jobs. 2020-07-20sis: switch from 'pci_' to 'dma_' APIChristophe JAILLET1-40/+49
The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below and has been hand modified to replace GFP_ with a correct flag. It has been compile tested. When memory is allocated in 'epic_init_one()' (sis190.c), GFP_KERNEL can be used because this is a net_device_ops' 'ndo_open' function. This function is protected by the rtnl_lock() semaphore. So only a mutex is used and no spin_lock is acquired. Before "sis900: fix TX completion" patch, TX completion was done on TxIDLE interrupt. TX completion also was the only thing done on TxIDLE interrupt. Since "sis900: fix TX completion", TX completion is done on TxDESC interrupt. So it is not necessary any more to set and to check for TxIDLE. Eliminate TxIDLE from sis900. Correct some typos, too. 2016-10-13net: deprecate eth_change_mtu, remove usageJarod Wilson1-1/+0
With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it. Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. 2012-10-07drivers/net/ethernet/sis/sis900.c: fix error return codePeter Senna Tschudin1-1/+3
The function sis900_probe() return 0 for success and negative value for most of its internal tests failures. There is one exception that is error case going to err_out_cleardev:. Fore this error case, the function abort its success execution path, but returns non negative value, making it difficult for a caller function to notice the error. This patch fixes the error case that do not return negative value. This was found by Coccinelle, but the code change was made by hand. This patch is not robot generated.
