We tell driver developers to always pass NAPI_POLL_WEIGHT as the weight to netif_napi_add(). This may be confusing to newcomers, drop the weight argument, those who really need to tweak the weight can use netif_napi_add_weight(). 2022-01-02tehuti: Use dma_set_mask_and_coherent() and simplify codeChristophe JAILLET1-18/+10
Use dma_set_mask_and_coherent() instead of unrolling it with some dma_set_mask()+dma_set_coherent_mask(). Moreover, as stated in [1], dma_set_mask_and_coherent() with a 64-bit mask will never fail if dev->dma_mask is non-NULL. So, if it fails, the 32 bits case will also fail for the same reason. That said, 'pci_using_dac' can only be 1 after a successful dma_set_mask_and_coherent(). Simplify code and remove some dead code accordingly. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Break the address up into an array on the stack, then call eth_hw_addr_set(). 2020-09-25drivers/net/ethernet: clean up mis-targeted commentsJesse Brandeburg1-5/+12
As part of the W=1 cleanups for ethernet, a million [*] driver comments had to be cleaned up to get the W=1 compilation to succeed. This change finally makes the drivers/net/ethernet tree compile with W=1 set on the command line. NOTE: The kernel uses kdoc style (see Documentation/process/kernel-doc.rst) when documenting code, not doxygen or other styles. After this patch the x86_64 build has no warnings from W=1, however scripts/kernel-doc says there are 1545 more warnings in source files, that I need to develop a script to fix in a followup patch. The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below and has been hand modified to replace GFP_ with a correct flag. It has been compile tested. When memory is allocated in 'bdx_fifo_init()' GFP_ATOMIC must be used because it can be called from a '.ndo_set_rx_mode' function. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation. 2020-03-02tehuti: Replace zero-length array with flexible-array memberGustavo A. R. Silva1-1/+1
The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. 2017-07-19net: tehuti: don't process data if it has not been copied from userspaceColin Ian King1-0/+2
The array data is only populated with valid information from userspace if cmd != SIOCDEVPRIVATE, other cases the array contains garbage on the stack. The subsequent switch statement acts on a subcommand in data[0] which could be any garbage value if cmd is SIOCDEVPRIVATE which seems incorrect to me. Instead, just return EOPNOTSUPP for the case where cmd == SIOCDEVPRIVATE to avoid this issue. As a side note, I suspect that the original intention of the code was for this ioctl to work just for cmd == SIOCDEVPRIVATE (and the current logic is reversed). However, I don't wont to change the current semantics in case any userspace code relies on this existing behaviour. This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure ISA cards with jumpers or vendor utilities, but with the implementation of PCI it became increasingly less and less relevant, to the point where it has been well over a decade since I last updated it. And there is no value in anyone else taking over updating it either. However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text from one Kconfig file into the next. We are not doing end users any favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread. Few network drivers really supports frag_list : virtual drivers. Some drivers wrongly advertise NETIF_F_FRAGLIST feature. If skb with a frag_list is given to them, packet on the wire will be corrupt. Remove this flag, as core networking stack will make sure to provide packets that can be sent without corruption.
