Modern C standards expect the '__inline__' keyword to come before the return
type in a declaration, and we get a warning for this with "make W=1":
drivers/net/hamradio/baycom_par.c:159:1: error: '__inline__' is not at beginning of declaration [-Werror=old-style-declaration]
For consistency with other drivers, I'm changing '__inline__' to 'inline'
at the same time.

a trans_start struct member exists twice:
- in struct net_device (legacy)
- in struct netdev_queue
Instead of open-coding dev->trans_start usage to obtain the current
trans_start value, use dev_trans_start() instead.
This is not exactly the same, as dev_trans_start also considers
the trans_start values of the netdev queues owned by the device
and provides the most recent one.
For legacy devices this doesn't matter as dev_trans_start can cope
with netdev trans_start values of 0 (they are ignored).
This is a prerequisite to eventual removal of dev->trans_start.

These drivers already call netif_stop_queue() so we should not be called
unless tx space is available. Just free the skb and return TX_OK.
Followup patch will remove NETDEV_TX_LOCKED from the kernel.

This change has been made with the goal that kernel functions should
return something more descriptive than -1 on failure.
A variable `err` has been introduced for storing error codes.
The return value of kzalloc on failure should return a -1 and not a
-ENOMEM. This was found using Coccinelle. A simplified version of
the semantic patch used is:

Furthermore, set `err` to -ENOMEM on failure of alloc_netdev(), and to

The single call site only checks that the return value is not 0,
hence no change is required at the call site.

32 bit systems using 'struct timeval' will break in the year 2038, so
we replace the code appropriately. However, this driver is not broken
in 2038 since we are only using microseconds portion of the time.
This patch replaces 'struct timeval' with 'struct timespec64'. We only
need to find elapsed microseconds rather than absolute time, so it's
better to use monotonic time, so using ktime_get_ts64() makes the code
more efficient and more robust against concurrent settimeofday()
calls.

commit d79f16c046086f4fe0d42184a458e187464eb83e fixed a user triggerable
scribble on free memory but added a new one which allows the user to
scribble even more and user controlled data into freed space.
As with 6pack we need to halt the queue before we free the buffers, because
the transmit logic is not protected by the semaphore.

commit acf673a3187edf72068ee2f92f4dc47d66baed47 fixed a user triggerable free
memory scribble but in doing so replaced it with a different one that allows
the user to control the data and scribble even more.
sixpack_close is called by the tty layer in tty context. The tty context is
protected by sp_get() and sp_put(). However network layer activity via
sp_xmit() is not protected this way. We must therefore stop the queue
otherwise the user gets to dump a buffer mostly of their choice into freed
kernel pages.

If register_netdev() fails we are not propagating the error and
we return success because ax_open() succeeded previously.
Fix this by checking the return value of ax_open() and
register_netdev() and propagate the error in case of failure.

Before the ax25 stack calls dev_queue_xmit it always calls
ax25_type_trans which sets skb->protocol to ETH_P_AX25.
Which means that by looking at the protocol type it is possible to
detect IP packets that have not been munged by the ax25 stack in
ndo_start_xmit and call a function to munge them.
Rename ax25_neigh_xmit to ax25_ip_xmit and tweak the return type and
value to be appropriate for an ndo_start_xmit function.
Update all of the ax25 devices to test the protocol type for ETH_P_IP
and return ax25_ip_xmit as the first thing they do. This preserves
the existing semantics of IP packet processing, but the timing will be
a little different as the IP packets now pass through the qdisc layer
before reaching the ax25 ip packet processing.
Remove the now unnecessary ax25 neighbour table operations.

AX25 already has it's own private arp cache operations to isolate
it's abuse of dev_rebuild_header to transmit packets. Add a function
ax25_neigh_construct that will allow all of the ax25 devices to
force using these operations, so that the generic arp code does
not need to.

The local variable 'bi' comes from userspace. If userspace passed a
large number to 'bi.data.calibrate', there would be an integer overflow
in the following line:

Several files refer to an old address for the Free Software Foundation
in the file header comment. Resolve by replacing the address with
the URL <http://www.gnu.org/licenses/> so that we do not have to keep

Fix up trivial conflicts, mostly just due to the TTY config option
clashing with the EXPERIMENTAL removal.

proc_net_remove is only used to remove proc entries
that under /proc/net,it's not a general function for
removing proc entries of netns. if we want to remove
some proc entries which under /proc/net/stat/, we still
need to call remove_proc_entry.
this patch use remove_proc_entry to replace proc_net_remove.
we can remove proc_net_remove after this patch.

Right now, some modules such as bonding use proc_create
to create proc entries under /proc/net/, and other modules
such as ipv4 use proc_net_fops_create.
It looks a little chaos.this patch changes all of
proc_net_fops_create to proc_create. we can remove
proc_net_fops_create after this patch.

The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This
saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway.
bloat-o-meter output is below.
The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on
TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY
layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate
symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than
"depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies.
bloat-o-meter output comparing our previous minimal to new minimal by
removing TTY. The list is filtered to not show removed entries with awk
'$3 != "-"' as the list was very long.

Adding casts of objects to the same type is unnecessary
and confusing for a human reader.
For example, this cast:
int y;
int *p = (int *)&y;
I used the coccinelle script below to find and remove these
unnecessary casts. I manually removed the conversions this
script produces of casts with __force, __iomem and __user.
