What's worse than no comment? A wrong comment. Several PCMCIA device drivers contained the same comments, which were based on how the PCMCIA subsystem worked in the old days of 2.4., and which were originally part of a "dummy_cs" driver. These comments no longer matched at all what is happening now, and therefore should be removed. 2010-09-29pcmcia: convert pcmcia_request_configuration to pcmcia_enable_deviceDominik Brodowski1-3/+2
pcmcia_enable_device() now replaces pcmcia_request_configuration(). Instead of config_req_t, all necessary flags are either passed as a parameter to pcmcia_enable_device(), or (in rare circumstances) set in struct pcmcia_device -> flags. With the last remaining user of include/pcmcia/cs.h gone, remove all references. 2010-09-29pcmcia: simplify IntTypeDominik Brodowski1-1/+0
IntType was only set to INT_MEMORY (driver pcmciamtd) or INT_MEMORY_AND_IO (all other drivers). As this flags seems to relate to ioport access, make it conditional to the driver having requested IO port access. There are two drivers which do not request IO ports, but did set INT_MEMORY_AND_IO: ray_cs and b43. For those, we consistently only set INT_MEMORY in future. 2010-08-17ethtool: Provide a default implementation of ethtool_ops::get_drvinfoBen Hutchings1-13/+0
The driver name and bus address for a net_device can normally be found through the driver model now. Instead of requiring drivers to provide this information redundantly through the ethtool_ops::get_drvinfo operation, use the driver model to do so if the driver does not define the operation. Since ETHTOOL_GDRVINFO no longer requires the driver to implement any operations, do not require net_device::ethtool_ops to be set either. This patch removes from drivers/net/ all the unnecessary return; statements that precede the last closing brace of void functions. It does not remove the returns that are immediately preceded by a label as gcc doesn't like that. It also does not remove null void functions with return. Done via: $ grep -rP --include=*.[ch] -l "return;\n}" net/ | \ xargs perl -i -e 'local $/ ; while (<>) { s/\n[ \t\n]+return;\n}/\n}/g; print; }' with some cleanups by hand. As a third step, remove any usage of dev_node_t from drivers which only wrote to this typedef/struct, except to determine whether register_netdev() succeeded previously. Instead of the old pcmcia_request_irq() interface, drivers may now choose between: - calling request_irq/free_irq directly. Use the IRQ from *p_dev->irq. - use pcmcia_request_irq(p_dev, handler_t); the PCMCIA core will clean up automatically on calls to pcmcia_disable_device() or device ejection. - drivers still not capable of IRQF_SHARED (or not telling us so) may use the deprecated pcmcia_request_exclusive_irq() for the time being; they might receive a shared IRQ nonetheless. Most of the irq_req_t typedef'd struct can be re-worked quite easily: (1) IRQInfo2 was unused in any case, so drop it. (2) IRQInfo1 was used write-only, so drop it. (3) Instance (private data to be passed to the IRQ handler): Most PCMCIA drivers using pcmcia_request_irq() to actually register an IRQ handler set the "dev_id" to the same pointer as the "priv" pointer in struct pcmcia_device. Modify the two exceptions (ipwireless, ibmtr_cs) to also work this waym and set the IRQ handler's "dev_id" to p_dev->priv unconditionally. (4) Handler is to be of type irq_handler_t. (5) Handler != NULL already tells whether an IRQ handler is present. Therefore, we do not need the IRQ_HANDLER_PRESENT flag in irq_req_t.Attributes. Convert PCMCIA drivers to use the dynamic debug infrastructure, instead of requiring manual settings of PCMCIA_DEBUG. Only some rare debug checks are now hidden behind "#ifdef DEBUG" or "#if 0". Also, remove all usages of the CS_CHECK macro and replace them with proper Linux style calling and return value checking. The extra error reporting may be dropped, as the PCMCIA core already complains about any (non-driver-author) errors. with while (--worklimit >= 0); worklimit reaches -1 after the loop. In 3c589_cs.c this caused a warning not to be printed. The generic packet receive code takes care of setting netdev->last_rx when necessary, for the sake of the bonding ARP monitor. Drivers need not do it any more. wn3_config is shared by these cards; the way we deal with it is both bad C (union abuse) and broken on big-endian. For 3c515 it's less serious (ISA cards are quite rare outside of little-endian boxen), but 3c574 is a pcmcia one and that'd better be endian-independent... Fix is the same in both cases. Both store MAC address in CIS; there's no decoder for that type (0x88) so the drivers work with raw data. It is byteswapped, so ntohs() works for little-endian, but for big-endian it's wrong. ntohs(le16_to_cpu()) does the right thing on both (and always expands to swab16()).
