The Lustre filesystem has been in the kernel tree for over 5 years now.
While it has been an endless source of enjoyment for new kernel
developers learning how to do basic codingstyle cleanups, as well as an
semi-entertaining source of bewilderment from the vfs developers any
time they have looked into the codebase to try to figure out how to port
their latest api changes to this filesystem, it has not really moved
forward into the "this is in shape to get out of staging" despite many
half-completed attempts.
And getting code out of staging is the main goal of that portion of the
kernel tree. Code should not stagnate and it feels like having this
code in staging is only causing the development cycle of the filesystem
to take longer than it should. There is a whole separate out-of-tree
copy of this codebase where the developers work on it, and then random
changes are thrown over the wall at staging at some later point in time.
This dual-tree development model has never worked, and the state of this
codebase is proof of that.
So, let's just delete the whole mess. Now the lustre developers can go
off and work in their out-of-tree codebase and not have to worry about
providing valid changelog entries and breaking their patches up into
logical pieces. They can take the time they have spend doing those
types of housekeeping chores and get the codebase into a much better
shape, and it can be submitted for inclusion into the real part of the
kernel tree when ready.

The refill operation of the xattr cache does not know the
reply size in advance, so it makes a guess based on
the maxeasize value returned by the MDS.
In practice, it allocates 16 KiB for the common case and
4 MiB for the large xattr case. However, a typical reply
is just a few hundred bytes.
If we follow the conservative approach, we can prepare a
single memory page for the reply. It is large enough for
any reasonable xattr set and, at the same time, it does
not require multiple page memory reclaim, which can be
costly.
If, for a specific file, the reply is larger than a single
page, the client is prepared to handle that and will fall back
to non-cached xattr code. Indeed, if this happens often and
xattrs are often used to store large values, it makes sense to
disable the xattr cache at all since it wasn't designed for
such [mis]use.

Originally, the limitation of ACL entries is 32, that is not
enough for some use cases. In fact, restricting ACL entries
count is mainly for preparing the RPC reply buffer to receive
the ACL data. So we cannot make the ACL entries count to be
unlimited. But we can enlarge the RPC reply buffer to hold
more ACL entries. On the other hand, MDT backend filesystem
has its own EA size limitation. For example, for ldiskfs case,
if large EA enable, then the max ACL size is 1048492 bytes;
otherwise, it is 4012 bytes. For ZFS backend, such value is
32768 bytes. With such hard limitation, we can calculate how
many ACL entries we can have at most. This patch increases
the RPC reply buffer to match such hard limitation. For old
client, to avoid buffer overflow because of large ACL data
(more than 32 ACL entries), the MDT will forbid the old client
to access the file with large ACL data. As for how to know
whether it is old client or new, a new connection flag
OBD_CONNECT_LARGE_ACL is used for that.

On the server side mdt_intent_getxattr() can return EFAULT if a
buffer cannot be found, it is returned after lock_replace, where a
new lock is installed into lockp. An error forces ldlm_lock_enqueue()
to destroy the original lock, but ldlm_handle_enqueue0() drops the
reference on the new lock. The xattr client code implied intent
error is returned under a lock, which is immediately cancelled.
Check if a lock obtained and cancel it properly for error cases.
Note: we should support both cases for interop needs, an intent
error under a lock and with a lock abort. Keep returning a lock
with an intent error for interop purposes for now, to be dropped
later when client will get old enough. make all intent ops to
work through md_intent_lock: getxattr and layout, which should
extract the intent error.

The only interesting difference between libcfs_kvzalloc()
and kvzalloc() is that the former appears to work
with GFP_NOFS, which the latter gives a WARN_ON_ONCE()
when that is attempted.
Each libcfs_kvzalloc() should really be analysed
and either converted to a kzalloc() call if the size is never
more than a page, or to use GFP_KERNEL if no locks are held.
If there is ever a case where locks are held and a large allocation
is needed, then some other technique should be used.
It might be nice to not always blindly zero pages too...
For now, just convert libcfs_kvzalloc() calls to
kvzalloc(), and let the warning remind us that there is work to do.

It's good to have SPDX identifiers in all files to make it easier to
audit the kernel tree for correct licenses.
Update the drivers/staging/lustre files files with the correct SPDX
license identifier based on the license text in the file itself. The
SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used
instead of the full boiler plate text.

needs 2 async RPCs to fetch both LOOKUP lock from parent MDT and
UPDATE lock from client MDT, which is complicated. Plus not
supporting remote entry statahead won't cause any issue.

* lmv_intent_getattr_async() will compare parent and child MDT,

lustre uses a fake switch() statement as a compile-time assert, but unfortunately
each use of that causes a warning when building with clang:
drivers/staging/lustre/lnet/klnds/socklnd/socklnd.c:2907:2: warning: no case matching constant switch condition '42'
drivers/staging/lustre/lnet/klnds/socklnd/../../../include/linux/libcfs/libcfs_private.h:294:36: note: expanded from macro 'CLASSERT'
#define CLASSERT(cond) do {switch (42) {case (cond): case 0: break; } } while (0)
As Greg suggested, let's just kill off this macro completely instead of
fixing it. This replaces it with BUILD_BUG_ON(), which means we have
to negate all the conditions in the process.

This patch is the main client part of a new feature that supports
multiple modify metadata RPCs in parallel. Its goal is to improve
metadata operations performance of a single client, while maintening
the consistency of MDT reply reconstruction and MDT recovery
mechanisms.
It allows to manage the number of modify RPCs in flight within
the client obd structure and to assign a virtual index (the tag) to
each modify RPC to help server side cleaning of reply data.
The mdc component uses this feature to send multiple modify RPCs
in parallel.

The patch removes find_cbdata callbacks and clear_nlink
from dentry_iput path, since this piece of code makes
a few races possible.
The test case reproduces one of the possible races
described in LU-7925:
1) two hard links are created for the same file
2) the test calls stat(2) for link #1
3) in the middle of 2) the test opens and closes link #2
4) in the middle of 2) the test drops the ldlm locks and
forces dentry reclaim via vm.drop_caches=2
5) in the middle of 2) ll_d_iput() clears i_nlink for
the inode
6) the initial stat(2) continues and copies the wrong
i_nlink value into st_nlink

Currently client open-by-fid often packs name into the request,
but the name may be invalid, eg. NFS export, and even if it's
valid, it may cause inconsistency because this operation is done
on this fid, which is globally unique, but name not.
Since open-by-fid doesn't pack name, for striped dir we can't know
parent stripe fid on client, so we set parent fid the same as
child fid, and MDT has to find its parent fid from linkea (this is
already supported by MDT).
M_CHECK_STALE becomes obsolete.
Unset MDS_OPEN_FL_INTERNAL from open syscall flags, because these
flags are internally used, and should not be set from user space.
It's not necessary to store parent fid in lli_pfid, because MDT
can get it's parent fid from linkea, and now that DNE stripe
directory stores master inode fid in lli_pfid, stop storing parent
fid to avoid conflict.

Separate master stripe with master object, so
1. stripeEA only exists on master object.
2. sub-stripe object will be inserted into master object
as sub-directory, and it can get the master object by "..".
By this, it will remove those specilities for stripe0 in
LMV and LOD. And also simplify LFSCK, i.e. consistency check
would be easier.
When then master object becomes an orphan, we should
mark all of its sub-stripes as dead object as well,
otherwise client might still be able to create files
under these stripes.
A few fixes for striped directory layout lock:
1. stripe 0 should be locked as EX, same as other stripes.
2. Acquire the layout for directory, when it is being unliked.

client needs to merge these attributes when update inode.
4. send create request to the MDT where the file is located,

Follow-on to patch introduced to fix LU-2665 ticket (Gerrit
Change at http://review.whamcloud.com/6415 with Change-Id:
I8faa331712abeadee46eabe111ee1c23a05840d5).
Original patch introduced regressions against POSIX test suite
(fcntl.18/fcntl.35 tests in LSB-VSX POSIX test suite at
http://www.opengroup.org/testing/linux-test/lsb-vsx.html),
so the idea is to only resend F_UNLCKs to have both LU-2665 bug
and POSIX test suite happy.
