2006-03-25V4L/DVB (3599a): Move drivers/usb/media to drivers/media/videoMauro Carvalho Chehab55-43954/+0
Because of historic reasons, there are two separate directories with V4L stuff. Most drivers are located at driver/media/video. However, some code for USB Webcams were inserted under drivers/usb/media. This makes difficult for module authors to know were things should be. Also, makes Kconfig menu confusing for normal users. This patch moves all V4L content under drivers/usb/media to drivers/media/video, and fixes Kconfig/Makefile entries. 2006-01-31[PATCH] USB: drivers/usb/media/ov511.c: remove hooks for the decomp moduleAdrian Bunk1-194/+2
- the decomp module is not intended for inclusion into the kernel - people using the decomp module from upstream will usually simply use the complete upstream 2.xx driver Therefore, there seems to be no good reason spending some bytes of kernel memory for hooks for this module. - the w9968cf-vpp module is not intended for inclusion into the kernel - the upstream w9968cf package shipping the w9968cf-vpp module suggests to simply replace the w9968cf module shipped with the kernel Therefore, there seems to be no good reason spending some bytes of kernel memory for hooks for the w9968cf-vpp module. 2006-01-09V4L (926_2): Moves compat32 functions from fs to v4l subsystemArnd Bergmann8-0/+8
This moves the 32 bit ioctl compatibility handlers for Video4Linux into a new file and adds explicit calls to them to each v4l device driver. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any code handling the v4l2 ioctls, so quite often the code goes through two separate conversions, first from 32 bit v4l to 64 bit v4l, and from there to 64 bit v4l2. My patch does not change that, so there is still much room for improvement. Also, some drivers have additional ioctl numbers, for which the conversion should be handled internally to that driver. 2005-11-09[PATCH] changing CONFIG_LOCALVERSION rebuilds too much, for no good reasonOlaf Hering3-3/+1
This patch removes almost all inclusions of linux/version.h. The 3 #defines are unused in most of the touched files. A few drivers use the simple KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) macro, which is unfortunatly in linux/version.h. There are also lots of #ifdef for long obsolete kernels, this was not touched. In a few places, the linux/version.h include was move to where the LINUX_VERSION_CODE was used. quilt vi `find * -type f -name "*.[ch]"|xargs grep -El '(UTS_RELEASE|LINUX_VERSION_CODE|KERNEL_VERSION|linux/version.h)'|grep -Ev '(/(boot|coda|drm)/|~$)'` search pattern: /UTS_RELEASE\|LINUX_VERSION_CODE\|KERNEL_VERSION\|linux\/\(utsname\|version\).h Signed-off-by: Olaf Hering <olh@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

This patch does a full cleanup of 'NULL checks before vfree', and a partial cleanup of calls to kfree for all of drivers/ - the kfree bit is partial in that I only did the files that also had vfree calls in them. The patch also gets rid of some redundant (void *) casts of pointers being passed to [vk]free, and a some tiny whitespace corrections also crept in. 2005-09-05[PATCH] I2C: Drop I2C_DEVNAME and i2c_clientnameJean Delvare1-5/+3
I2C_DEVNAME and i2c_clientname were introduced in 2.5.68 [1] to help media/video driver authors who wanted their code to be compatible with both Linux 2.4 and 2.6. The cause of the incompatibility has gone since [2], so I think we can get rid of them, as they tend to make the code harder to read and longer to preprocess/compile for no more benefit. I'd hope nobody seriously attempts to keep media/video driver compatible across Linux trees anymore, BTW. The pwc chainsaw session left some setups not working. There is a sanity check on compression buffers that simply isn't right any more as we never allocate one. 2005-05-27[PATCH] remove non-cleanroom pwc driver compressionAlan Cox10-2473/+14
The original pwc author raised some questions about the reverse engineering of the decompressor algorithms used in the pwc driver. Having done some detailed investigation it appears those concerns that clean room policy was not followed are reasonable. I've also had a friendly discussion with Philips to ask their view on this. This removes the problem items of code which reduces the pwc functionality in the kernel a little but leaves all the framework for setup that will be needed for decompressors in user space (where they eventually belong). This change set is designed to be the minimal risk change set given that 2.6.12 is hopefully close to hand, with a view to merging the much updated pwc code in 2.6.13 series kernels. Someone else can then redo the decompressors properly (clean room) in user space. Note that while its easy to say that it should have been caught earlier, but the violation was really only obvious to someone who had access to both the proprietary source and the 'GPL' source.
