2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2015-12-16ssb: pick SoC invariants code from MIPS BCM47xx archRafał Miłecki1-7/+3
There is code in ssb fetching "invariants" that is basically a set of board specific data. Every host requires its own implementation of reading function. In ssb we have support for PCI, PCMCIA & SDIO. For some (historical?) reason code reading "invariants" for SoC was placed in arch code and provided by a callback. This is not needed nowadays, so lets move that into ssb. This way we keep all "invariants" functions in a single module making code cleaner. 2014-05-19ssb: sprom: add dev_id field for value overriding standard IDRafał Miłecki1-0/+1
Some devices may have different features despite sharing the same ID (e.g. PCI ID). For example 14e4:4331 is usually a dual band, but this can be "limited". Device with "pci/x/y/devid=0x4332" supports 2.4 GHz only. Similarly 0x4333 will mean support for 5 GHz only. Add entry in SPROM so info described above can be extracted and stored. Previously the rev contained the revision read from the pci config space and was used as board_rev in the wireless drivers. This is wrong the board_rev is only fetched from the sprom accordingly to the open source part of the Broadcom SDK and brcmsmac. This patch removes the rev from the boardinfo structure and uses the board_rev attribute from sprom instead. This attribute is filled by PCI, PCMCIA, SDIO and SoC code. There is no 2.4 GHz or 5GHz antenna gain stored in sprom. The sprom just stores the gain values for antenna 1 and 2 or 1 to 4 for more recent sprom versions. Some parts of the sprom struct are bigger than needed. The leddc and maxpwr values are just 8 bit long and not 16. rxpo2g and rxpo5g are signed I got these information for the open source part of the Broadcom SDK covering sprom version 1 to 9. rxpo2g contained a negative number on my bcm5354 based device, this cased an error and Broadcom SDK says this is signed. We already extract some basic info but it's incomplete, reads info about the first core only. Used data structure doesn't allow easy adding of more cores. This patch adds new struct and array for storing power info. The plan is to: switch all extractors (including the ones using NVRAM) to new struct, switch drivers, then deprecate and finally drop old SSB fields. The original implementations reference THIS_MODULE in an inline. We could include <linux/export.h>, but it is better to avoid chaining. Fortunately someone else already thought of this, and made a similar inline into a #define in <linux/device.h> for device_schedule_callback(), [see commit 523ded71de0] so follow that precedent here. Also bubble up any __must_check that were used on the prev. wrapper inline functions up one to the real __register functions, to preserve any prev. sanity checks that were used in those instances. 2011-05-19SSB: Change fallback sprom to callback mechanism.Hauke Mehrtens1-1/+3
Some embedded devices like the Netgear WNDR3300 have two SSB based cards without an own sprom on the pci bus. We have to provide two different fallback sproms for these and this was not possible with the old solution. In the bcm47xx architecture the sprom data is stored in the nvram in the main flash storage. The architecture code will be able to fill the sprom with the stored data based on the bus where the device was found. The bcm63xx code should do the same thing as before, just using the new API. 2010-06-04ssb: add dma_dev to ssb_device structureFUJITA Tomonori1-1/+1
Add dma_dev, a pointer to struct device, to struct ssb_device. We pass it to the generic DMA API with SSB_BUSTYPE_PCI and SSB_BUSTYPE_SSB. ssb_devices_register() sets up it properly. Our offset handling becomes even a little more hackish now. For some reason I do not understand all offsets as inrelative. It assumes base offset is 0x1000 but it will work for now as we make offsets relative anyway by removing base 0x1000. Should be cleaner however. Attempting to read registers that don't exist on the SSB bus can cause hangs on some boxes. At least some b43 devices are 'in the wild' that don't have SPROMs at all. When the SSB bus support loads, it attempts to read these (non-existant) SPROMs and causes hard hangs on the box -- no console output, etc. This patch adds some intelligence to determine whether or not the SPROM is present before attempting to read it. This avoids those hard hangs on those devices with no SPROM attached to their SSB bus. The SSB-attached devices (e.g. b43, et al.) won't work, but at least the box will survive to test further patches. :-) Signed-off-by: John W. Add per-device dma_mapping_ops support for CONFIG_X86_64 as POWER architecture does: This enables us to cleanly fix the Calgary IOMMU issue that some devices are not behind the IOMMU (http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/5/8/423). I think that per-device dma_mapping_ops support would be also helpful for KVM people to support PCI passthrough but Andi thinks that this makes it difficult to support the PCI passthrough (see the above thread). So I CC'ed this to KVM camp. Comments are appreciated. A pointer to dma_mapping_ops to struct dev_archdata is added. If the pointer is non NULL, DMA operations in asm/dma-mapping.h use it. If it's NULL, the system-wide dma_ops pointer is used as before. If it's useful for KVM people, I plan to implement a mechanism to register a hook called when a new pci (or dma capable) device is created (it works with hot plugging). It enables IOMMUs to set up an appropriate dma_mapping_ops per device. The major obstacle is that dma_mapping_error doesn't take a pointer to the device unlike other DMA operations. So x86 can't have dma_mapping_ops per device. Note all the POWER IOMMUs use the same dma_mapping_error function so this is not a problem for POWER but x86 IOMMUs use different dma_mapping_error functions. The first patch adds the device argument to dma_mapping_error. The patch is trivial but large since it touches lots of drivers and dma-mapping.h in all the architecture. This patch: dma_mapping_error() doesn't take a pointer to the device unlike other DMA operations. So we can't have dma_mapping_ops per device. Note that POWER already has dma_mapping_ops per device but all the POWER IOMMUs use the same dma_mapping_error function. x86 IOMMUs use device argument. This fixes DMA on architectures where DMA is nontrivial, like PPC64. We must use the host-device's (PCI) struct device for any DMA operation instead of the SSB device. Without this patch b43 and b44 drivers won't work on complex-DMA architectures, that for example need dev->archdata for DMA operations.
