2021-08-08batman-adv: Check ptr for NULL before reducing its refcntSven Eckelmann1-11/+1
The commit b37a46683739 ("netdevice: add the case if dev is NULL") changed the way how the NULL check for net_devices have to be handled when trying to reduce its reference counter. Before this commit, it was the responsibility of the caller to check whether the object is NULL or not. But it was changed to behave more like kfree. Now the callee has to handle the NULL-case. The batman-adv code was scanned via cocinelle for similar places. These were changed to use the paradigm @@ identifier E, T, R, C; identifier put; @@ void put(struct T *E) { + if (!E) + return; kref_put(&E->C, R); } Functions which were used in other sources files were moved to the header to allow the compiler to inline the NULL check and the kref_put call. 2021-02-06batman-adv: Drop publication years from copyright infoSven Eckelmann1-1/+1
The batman-adv source code was using the year of publication (to net-next) as "last" year for the copyright statement. The whole source code mentioned in the MAINTAINERS "BATMAN ADVANCED" section was handled as a single entity regarding the publishing year. This avoided having outdated (in sense of year information - not copyright holder) publishing information inside several files. But since the simple "update copyright year" commit (without other changes) in the file was not well received in the upstream kernel, the option to not have a copyright year (for initial and last publication) in the files are chosen instead. More detailed information about the years can still be retrieved from the SCM system. 2020-08-18batman-adv: Avoid uninitialized chaddr when handling DHCPSven Eckelmann1-2/+4
The gateway client code can try to optimize the delivery of DHCP packets to avoid broadcasting them through the whole mesh. But also transmissions to the client can be optimized by looking up the destination via the chaddr of the DHCP packet. But the chaddr is currently only done when chaddr is fully inside the non-paged area of the skbuff. Otherwise it will not be initialized and the unoptimized path should have been taken. But the implementation didn't handle this correctly. It didn't retrieve the correct chaddr but still tried to perform the TT lookup with this uninitialized memory. 2019-03-25batman-adv: Make sysfs support optionalSven Eckelmann1-1/+0
The sysfs files will be marked as deprecated in the near future. They are already replaced by the batadv generic netlink family. Add an Kconfig option to disable the sysfs support for users who want to test their tools or want to safe some space. This setting should currently still be enabled by default to keep backward compatible with legacy tools. 2019-02-09batman-adv: Add gateway mesh genl configurationSven Eckelmann1-1/+0
The mesh/soft-interface can optimize the handling of DHCP packets. Instead of flooding them through the whole mesh, it can be forwarded as unicast to a specific gateway server. The originator which injects the packets in the mesh has to select (based on sel_class thresholds) a responsible gateway server. This is done by switching this originator to the gw_mode client. The servers announce their forwarding bandwidth (download/upload) when the gw_mode server was selected. 2018-11-12batman-adv: Add inconsistent gateway netlink dump detectionSven Eckelmann1-0/+3
The netlink dump functionality transfers a large number of entries from the kernel to userspace. It is rather likely that the transfer has to interrupted and later continued. During that time, it can happen that either new entries are added or removed. The userspace could than either receive some entries multiple times or miss entries. Commit 670dc2833d14 ("netlink: advertise incomplete dumps") introduced a mechanism to inform userspace about this problem. Userspace can then decide whether it is necessary or not to retry dumping the information again. The netlink dump functions have to be switched to exclusive locks to avoid changes while the current message is prepared. And an external generation sequence counter is introduced which tracks all modifications of the list. 2018-09-06batman-adv: Prevent duplicated gateway_node entrySven Eckelmann1-2/+9
The function batadv_gw_node_add is responsible for adding new gw_node to the gateway_list. It is expecting that the caller already checked that there is not already an entry with the same key or not. But the lock for the list is only held when the list is really modified. This could lead to duplicated entries because another context could create an entry with the same key between the check and the list manipulation. The check and the manipulation of the list must therefore be in the same locked code section. 2018-03-24batman-adv: fix packet loss for broadcasted DHCP packets to a serverLinus Lüssing1-1/+4
DHCP connectivity issues can currently occur if the following conditions are met: 1) A DHCP packet from a client to a server 2) This packet has a multicast destination 3) This destination has a matching entry in the translation table (FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF for IPv4, 33:33:00:01:00:02/33:33:00:01:00:03 for IPv6) 4) The orig-node determined by TT for the multicast destination does not match the orig-node determined by best-gateway-selection In this case the DHCP packet will be dropped. The "gateway-out-of-range" check is supposed to only be applied to unicasted DHCP packets to a specific DHCP server. In that case dropping the the unicasted frame forces the client to retry via a broadcasted one, but now directed to the new best gateway. A DHCP packet with broadcast/multicast destination is already ensured to always be delivered to the best gateway. Dropping a multicasted DHCP packet here will only prevent completing DHCP as there is no other fallback. So far, it seems the unicast check was implicitly performed by expecting the batadv_transtable_search() to return NULL for multicast destinations. However, a multicast address could have always ended up in the translation table and in fact is now common. To fix this potential loss of a DHCP client-to-server packet to a multicast address this patch adds an explicit multicast destination check to reliably bail out of the gateway-out-of-range check for such destinations. The issue and fix were tested in the following three node setup: - Line topology, A-B-C - A: gateway client, DHCP client - B: gateway server, hop-penalty increased: 30->60, DHCP server - C: gateway server, code modifications to announce FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF Without this patch, A would never transmit its DHCP Discover packet due to an always "out-of-range" condition. With this patch, a full DHCP handshake between A and B was possible again. The header file is used by different userspace programs to inject packets or to decode sniffed packets. It should therefore be available to them as userspace header. Also other components in the kernel (like the flow dissector) require access to the packet definitions to be able to decode ETH_P_BATMAN ethernet packets. The files provided by batman-adv via debugfs are currently converted to netlink. Tools which are not yet converted to use the netlink interface may still rely on the old debugfs files. But systems which already upgraded their tools can save some space by disabling this feature. 2016-02-16batman-adv: Only put gw_node list reference when removedSven Eckelmann1-3/+4
The batadv_gw_node reference counter in batadv_gw_node_update can only be reduced when the list entry was actually removed. Otherwise the reference counter may reach zero when batadv_gw_node_update is called from two different contexts for the same gw_node but only one context is actually removing the entry from the list. The release function for this gw_node is not called inside the list_lock spinlock protected region because the function batadv_gw_node_update still holds a gw_node reference for the object pointer on the stack. Thus the actual release function (when required) will be called only at the end of the function.
