2021-11-10bpftool: Fix SPDX tag for Makefiles and .gitignoreQuentin Monnet1-1/+1
Bpftool is dual-licensed under GPLv2 and BSD-2-Clause. In commit 907b22365115 ("tools: bpftool: dual license all files") we made sure that all its source files were indeed covered by the two licenses, and that they had the correct SPDX tags. However, bpftool's Makefile, the Makefile for its documentation, and the .gitignore file were skipped at the time (their GPL-2.0-only tag was added later). Let's update the tags. This logic is used for validating the manual pages from selftests, so move the infra under tools/testing/selftests/bpf/ and rely on selftests for validation rather than tying it into the bpftool build. 2020-11-12tools/bpf: Add bootstrap/ to .gitignoreJean-Philippe Brucker1-1/+1
Commit 8859b0da5aac ("tools/bpftool: Fix cross-build") added a build-time bootstrap/ directory for bpftool, and removed bpftool-bootstrap. Update .gitignore accordingly. 2020-06-22tools/bpftool: Generalize BPF skeleton support and generate vmlinux.hAndrii Nakryiko1-1/+2
Adapt Makefile to support BPF skeleton generation beyond single profiler.bpf.c case. Also add vmlinux.h generation and switch profiler.bpf.c to use it. clang-bpf-global-var feature is extended and renamed to clang-bpf-co-re to check for support of preserve_access_index attribute, which, together with BTF for global variables, is the minimum requirement for modern BPF programs. 2020-06-22tools/bpftool: Minimize bootstrap bpftoolAndrii Nakryiko1-1/+1
Build minimal "bootstrap mode" bpftool to enable skeleton (and, later, vmlinux.h generation), instead of building almost complete, but slightly different (w/o skeletons, etc) bpftool to bootstrap complete bpftool build. Current approach doesn't scale well (engineering-wise) when adding more BPF programs to bpftool and other complicated functionality, as it requires constant adjusting of the code to work in both bootstrapped mode and normal mode. So it's better to build only minimal bpftool version that supports only BPF skeleton code generation and BTF-to-C conversion. Thankfully, this is quite easy to accomplish due to internal modularity of bpftool commands. This will also allow to keep adding new functionality to bpftool in general, without the need to care about bootstrap mode for those new parts of bpftool. Pull SPDX updates from Greg KH: "Here are three SPDX patches for 5.7-rc1. One fixes up the SPDX tag for a single driver, while the other two go through the tree and add SPDX tags for all of the .gitignore files as needed. Nothing too complex, but you will get a merge conflict with your current tree, that should be trivial to handle (one file modified by two things, one file deleted.) All three of these have been in linux-next for a while, with no reported issues other than the merge conflict" * tag 'spdx-5.7-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/spdx: ASoC: MT6660: make spdxcheck.py happy .gitignore: add SPDX License Identifier .gitignore: remove too obvious comments

2019-08-31tools: bpf: account for generated feature/ and libbpf/ directoriesQuentin Monnet1-0/+2
When building "tools/bpf" from the top of the Linux repository, the build system passes a value for the $(OUTPUT) Makefile variable to tools/bpf/Makefile and tools/bpf/bpftool/Makefile, which results in generating "libbpf/" (for bpftool) and "feature/" (bpf and bpftool) directories inside the tree. This commit adds such directories to the relevant .gitignore files, and edits the Makefiles to ensure they are removed on "make clean". The use of "rm" is also made consistent throughout those Makefiles (relies on the $(RM) variable, use "--" to prevent interpreting $(OUTPUT)/$(DESTDIR) as options. v2: - New patch. 2019-05-04bpftool: exclude bash-completion/bpftool from .gitignore patternMasahiro Yamada1-1/+1
tools/bpf/bpftool/.gitignore has the "bpftool" pattern, which is intended to ignore the following build artifact: tools/bpf/bpftool/bpftool However, the .gitignore entry is effective not only for the current directory, but also for any sub-directories. So, from the point of .gitignore grammar, the following check-in file is also considered to be ignored: tools/bpf/bpftool/bash-completion/bpftool As the manual gitignore(5) says "Files already tracked by Git are not affected", this is not a problem as far as Git is concerned. However, Git is not the only program that parses .gitignore because .gitignore is useful to distinguish build artifacts from source files. For example, tar(1) supports the --exclude-vcs-ignore option. As of writing, this option does not work perfectly, but it intends to create a tarball excluding files specified by .gitignore. So, I believe it is better to fix this issue. You can fix it by prefixing the pattern with a slash; the leading slash means the specified pattern is relative to the current directory.
