Optimize and fix lockdep tracking for zram devices by consolidating
per-entry lockmaps and isolate lock classes across multiple instances
This reduces memory overhead by replacing per-entry lockdep_map
instances with a single map per struct zram, and assigns a dynamic
lock_class_key to each instance to prevent false deadlock reports
when different zram devices are backed by distinct filesystems.

Pull VDSO updates from Thomas Gleixner:
- Consolidate the VDSO datastore further and provide support for
mlock_all() and prefaulting.
- Provide 32-bit legacy time related functionality only if
CONFIG_COMPAT_32BIT_TIME is enabled. The config switch exists,
but architecture code still exposes the legacy functionality even
disabled.
Clean this up by adding the missing guards and validating at build
time that the VDSO is legacy free if disabled.
- Consolidate the VDSO related config options in core and drivers,
which removes some non-sensical dependencies and quite an amount of

Pull generic entry code updates from Thomas Gleixner:
- Make syscall user dispatching configurable
Not all architectures can makes use of syscall user dispatching.
Allow them to disable the feature completely.
- Consolidate stack randomization for the generic entry code and the
architectures using it.
Stack randomization on syscall entry was sprinkled throughout the
architecture specific low level entry code and in some cases at the
wrong points, e.g. before establishing state, which violates the
non-instrumentable constraints of that code.
Clean this up by integrating stack randomization into the generic
entry code helpers so that it is invoked at the earliest possible
point right after establishing state and converting all generic entry
code using architecture over.
- Clean up the syscall number handling in the generic entry code. It
works correctly for architectures which have a separate return value
storage in pt_regs, but fails to distinguish the case where user
space handed in -1 as syscall number from the case where the entry
code rejects it by returning -1 to the callers. Aside of that the
return value functionality of those interfaces is not really
intuitive.
Fix this by separating the decision to reject a syscall (user
dispatch, ptrace, seccomp ...) from the potential modification of the
syscall number through these mechanisms.
This solves most of the problems for architectures which do not have
a separate return value storage in pt_regs except for the case where
a tracepoint has a BPF script or a probe attached which overwrite
both the syscall number and the return value. But that's a problem
which cannot be solved in the generic code, that only can be
addressed by separating the storage model in the affected
architectures.

The core do_mmap() function accepts a vm_flags_t parameter which it then
manipulates before passing to mmap_region() to do the heavy lifting of the
memory mapping.
Update do_mmap() to instead accept a vma_flags_t parameter, and adjust all
the logic within do_mmap() to manipulate this instead.
This is as part of the ongoing effort to convert VMA flags from a system
word size to a bitmap type which allows us to unrestrict the number of VMA
flags, as well as gain control over how VMA flag manipulation occurs.
We do not cascade these changes to all functions which accept vm_flags_t,
but rather use vma_flags_to_legacy() where necessary, specifically
deferring converting calc_vm_prot_bits(), calc_vm_flag_bits() and
__get_unmapped_area() to vma_flags_t.
Also utilise the new vma_flags_can_grow() predicate which correctly
handles the case of architectures without upward growing stacks.
As part of this change, introduce VMA_SHADOW_STACK so we can correctly
handle the case of the shadow stack not being defined.
No functional change intended.

If tracer wanted to skip a syscall return value was always
overwritten with -ENOSYS. Fix this by checking against original
syscall number and only return -ENOSYS, if it is negative.

to permit the syscall processing or not.
Rename the function so the purpose is clear and make the return type bool.

The return value of __secure_computing() currently uses 0 to indicate
that a system call should be allowed, and -1 to indicate that it should
be blocked/killed. This 0/-1 pattern is non-intuitive for a security
check function and makes the control flow at the call sites less readable.
Furthermore, any potential future changes to these return values would
require a high-risk, error-prone audit of all its users across different
architectures.
Sanitize this logic by converting the return type of __secure_computing()
to a proper boolean, where 'true' explicitly means 'allow' and 'false'
means 'fail/deny'.
Update all the two dozen or so call sites across the tree to align with
this new boolean semantic. No functional changes are intended, as the
callers still return -1 to the lower-level assembly entry code upon
seccomp denial.
Rename the function to __seccomp_permit_syscall() so that the purpose is
entirely clear.

smp_send_stop() parks all secondary CPUs in stop_this_cpu(). The function
marks the CPU offline for the scheduler via set_cpu_online(false) but
never informs RCU, so RCU keeps expecting a quiescent state from CPUs
that are now spinning forever with interrupts disabled.
As long as nothing waits for an RCU grace period after smp_send_stop()
this is harmless, which is why it went unnoticed. Since commit
91840be8f710 ("irq_work: Fix use-after-free in irq_work_single() on PREEMPT_RT")
however, irq_work_sync() calls synchronize_rcu() on architectures without
an irq_work self-IPI, i.e. where arch_irq_work_has_interrupt() returns
false. That is the asm-generic default used by MIPS. Any irq_work_sync()
issued in the reboot/shutdown path after smp_send_stop() then blocks on
a grace period that can never complete, hanging the reboot:

This issue was noticed on several Realtek MIPS switch SoCs (MIPS
interAptiv) and came up during kernel bump downstream in OpenWrt from
6.18.33 to 6.18.34, after the backport of the patch to the 6.18 stable
branch. The patch also has been backported all the way back to 6.1.
Call rcutree_report_cpu_dead() once interrupts are disabled, mirroring the
generic CPU-hotplug offline path, so RCU stops waiting on the parked CPUs
and grace periods can still complete. MIPS shuts down all CPUs here
without going through the CPU-hotplug mechanism, so this report is not
otherwise issued. Reporting a dying CPU to RCU outside the regular hotplug
offline path is not unprecedented: arm64 does the same in cpu_die_early().
There it is an exception for a CPU that was coming online and is aborting
bringup, rather than the default shutdown action as on MIPS.

This patch addresses a critical memory management flaw. When
CONFIG_CPUMASK_OFFSTACK is enabled, cpumask_var_t is a pointer.
Consequently, sizeof(new_mask) evaluates to the pointer size, causing
copy_from_user() to clobber the mask pointer. Furthermore, the old
logic performed copy_from_user() before allocating the mask.
Fix this by allocating new_mask first. To handle variable-sized user
masks correctly, use cpumask_size() to truncate overly large user masks
or pad undersized masks with zeros before copying the data directly into
the allocated buffer.

A MIPS allmodconfig built with LLVM can select CPU_MIPS32_R1 together
with MIPS_MT_SMP. In that configuration clang invokes the integrated
assembler with -march=mips32, and the MIPS MT path in cps-vec.S fails
to assemble two jr.hb instructions:

a CPU feature not currently enabled
The earlier jr.hb in the same file is already assembled inside a .set
MIPS_ISA_LEVEL_RAW scope. The two failing sites are reached after
popping back to the file's base ISA level, so LLVM correctly rejects
them for an R1 target.
Wrap those jr.hb instructions in the same ISA-level push/pop used by
the working site. This keeps the MT code unchanged while making the
required R2 hazard-branch encoding explicit to the assembler.

As from commit 8f99a1626535 ("MIPS: Tracing: Add IRQENTRY_EXIT section
for MIPS") do_IRQ() is not a macro anymore and can be invoked directly
from assembly code again, however its `asmlinkage' annotation has never
been brought back from the previous removal of the function with commit
187933f23679 ("[MIPS] do_IRQ cleanup").
Since calling the function directly from assembly code has a performance
advantage, add the annotation back so that the DEC platform can make use
of this again.

bootcmdline_scan_chosen() fetches the raw flat-DT bootargs property and
passes it straight to bootcmdline_append(). That helper later feeds the
same pointer into strlcat(), which computes strlen(src) before copying.
Flat DT properties are external boot input, and this path does not
prove that bootargs is NUL-terminated within its declared bounds.
Reject unterminated bootargs properties before appending them to the
kernel command line.

Remove rubbish $0 clobber added to inline asm within `mult_sh_align_mod'
with the removal of support for GCC versions below 3.4 made with commit
57810ecb581a ("MIPS: Remove GCC_IMM_ASM & GCC_REG_ACCUM macros").
Previously a macro was used that, depending on GCC version, expanded to
either `accum' or $0. Since the latter choice was only a placeholder to
keep the syntax consistent and the register referred is hardwired, there
is no point in having it here as it has no effect on code generation.

With a 32-bit kernel running on 64-bit MIPS hardware the hardcoded value
of `cpu_vmbits' only records the size of compatibility useg and does not
reflect the size of native xuseg or the complete range of values allowed
in the VPN2 field of TLB entries.
An upcoming change will need the actual VPN2 value range permitted even
in 32-bit kernel configurations, so always include the `vmbits' member
in `struct cpuinfo_mips' and probe for SEGBITS when running on 64-bit
hardware and resorting to the currently hardcoded value of 31 on 32-bit
processors. No functional change for users of `cpu_vmbits'.

The "small" argument to do_sys_ftruncate indicates if > 32-bit size
should be reject, but all the arch-specific compat ftruncate64
implementations get this wrong. Merge do_sys_ftruncate and
ksys_ftruncate, replace the integer as boolean small flag with a
descriptive one about LFS semantics, and use it correctly in the
architecture-specific ftruncate64 implementations.

Commit 3e86e4d74c04 ("kbuild: keep .modinfo section in
vmlinux.unstripped") added .modinfo to ELF_DETAILS while removing it
from COMMON_DISCARDS, as it was needed in vmlinux.unstripped and
ELF_DETAILS was present in all architecture specific vmlinux linker
scripts. While this shuffle is fine for vmlinux, ELF_DETAILS and
COMMON_DISCARDS may be used by other linker scripts, such as the s390
and x86 compressed boot images, which may not expect to have a .modinfo
section. In certain circumstances, this could result in a bootloader
failing to load the compressed kernel [1].
Commit ddc6cbef3ef1 ("s390/boot/vmlinux.lds.S: Ensure bzImage ends with
SecureBoot trailer") recently addressed this for the s390 bzImage but
the same bug remains for arm, parisc, and x86. The presence of .modinfo
in the x86 bzImage was the root cause of the issue worked around with
commit d50f21091358 ("kbuild: align modinfo section for Secureboot
Authenticode EDK2 compat"). misc.c in arch/x86/boot/compressed includes
lib/decompress_unzstd.c, which in turn includes lib/xxhash.c and its
MODULE_LICENSE / MODULE_DESCRIPTION macros due to the STATIC definition.
Split .modinfo out from ELF_DETAILS into its own macro and handle it in
all vmlinux linker scripts. Discard .modinfo in the places where it was
previously being discarded from being in COMMON_DISCARDS, as it has
never been necessary in those uses.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

purposes, but that integration never happened.

The memory allocator is available when interrupts can be requested
so there is not need for static irq_action. Move the remaining
users to request_percpu_irq() and delete the historical cruft.
- Warn when interrupt flag inconsistencies are detected in
request*_irq().
Inconsistent flags can lead to hard to diagnose malfunction. The
fallout of this new warning has been addressed in next and the
fixes are coming in via the maintainer trees and the tip
irq/cleanup pull requests.

On MIPS, __current_thread_info is defined as global register variable
locating in $gp, and is simply assigned with new address during kernel
relocation.
This however is broken with LLVM, which always restores $gp if it finds
$gp is clobbered in any form, including when intentionally through a
global register variable. This is against GCC's documentation[1], which
requires a callee-saved register used as global register variable not to
be restored if it's clobbered.
As a result, $gp will continue to point to the unrelocated kernel after
the epilog of relocate_kernel(), leading to an early crash in init_idle,

This bug has been reported to LLVM[2] and affects version from (at
least) 18 to 21. Let's work around this by using inline assembly to
assign $gp before a fix is widely available.

All three variants of paging_init() on MIPS are wrappers for
pagetable_init().
Instead of having three identical wrappers, call pagetable_init() directly
from setup_arch() and remove the unnecessary paging_init() functions.

Every architecture calls sparse_init() during setup_arch() although the
data structures created by sparse_init() are not used until the
initialization of the core MM.
Beside the code duplication, calling sparse_init() from architecture
specific code causes ordering differences of vmemmap and HVO
initialization on different architectures.
Move the call to sparse_init() from architecture specific code to
free_area_init() to ensure that vmemmap and HVO initialization order is
always the same.

Provide a new syscall which has the only purpose to yield the CPU after the
kernel granted a time slice extension.
sched_yield() is not suitable for that because it unconditionally
schedules, but the end of the time slice extension is not required to
schedule when the task was already preempted. This also allows to have a
strict check for termination to catch user space invoking random syscalls
including sched_yield() from a time slice extension region.

Remove <linux/hex.h> from <linux/kernel.h> and update all users/callers of
hex.h interfaces to directly #include <linux/hex.h> as part of the process
of putting kernel.h on a diet.
Removing hex.h from kernel.h means that 36K C source files don't have to
pay the price of parsing hex.h for the roughly 120 C source files that
need it.
This change has been build-tested with allmodconfig on most ARCHes. Also,
all users/callers of <linux/hex.h> in the entire source tree have been
updated if needed (if not already #included).

"This contains substantial namespace infrastructure changes including a new
system call, active reference counting, and extensive header cleanups.
The branch depends on the shared kbuild branch for -fms-extensions support.
Features:
- listns() system call
Add a new listns() system call that allows userspace to iterate
through namespaces in the system. This provides a programmatic
interface to discover and inspect namespaces, addressing
longstanding limitations:
Currently, there is no direct way for userspace to enumerate
namespaces. Applications must resort to scanning /proc/*/ns/ across
all processes, which is:
- Inefficient - requires iterating over all processes
- Incomplete - misses namespaces not attached to any running
process but kept alive by file descriptors, bind mounts, or
parent references
- Permission-heavy - requires access to /proc for many processes
- No ordering or ownership information
- No filtering per namespace type
The listns() system call solves these problems:

Introduce an active reference count that tracks namespace
visibility to userspace. A namespace is visible in the following
cases:
- The namespace is in use by a task
- The namespace is persisted through a VFS object (namespace file
descriptor or bind-mount)
- The namespace is a hierarchical type and is the parent of child
namespaces
The active reference count does not regulate lifetime (that's still
done by the normal reference count) - it only regulates visibility
to namespace file handles and listns().
This prevents resurrection of namespaces that are pinned only for
internal kernel reasons (e.g., user namespaces held by
file->f_cred, lazy TLB references on idle CPUs, etc.) which should
not be accessible via (1)-(3).
- Unified Namespace Tree
Introduce a unified tree structure for all namespaces with:
- Fixed IDs assigned to initial namespaces
- Lookup based solely on inode number
- Maintained list of owned namespaces per user namespace
- Simplified rbtree comparison helpers

Fixes:
- setns(pidfd, ...) race condition
Fix a subtle race when using pidfds with setns(). When the target
task exits after prepare_nsset() but before commit_nsset(), the
namespace's active reference count might have been dropped. If
setns() then installs the namespaces, it would bump the active
reference count from zero without taking the required reference on
the owner namespace, leading to underflow when later decremented.
The fix resurrects the ownership chain if necessary - if the caller
succeeded in grabbing passive references, the setns() should
succeed even if the target task exits or gets reaped.
- Return EFAULT on put_user() error instead of success
- Make sure references are dropped outside of RCU lock (some
namespaces like mount namespace sleep when putting the last
reference)
- Don't skip active reference count initialization for network
namespace
- Add asserts for active refcount underflow
- Add asserts for initial namespace reference counts (both passive
and active)
