2026-09-04mtd: rawnand: cadence: Initialize IRQ state before requesting IRQRunyu Xiao1-3/+3
The Cadence NAND interrupt handler uses both the IRQ lock and completion object. Registering the IRQ before initializing them leaves a window in which a pending interrupt can access uninitialized synchronization state. Initialize them before registering the handler. 2026-09-04mtd: rawnand: vf610_nfc: fix false bitflips on reads of erased pagesMehmet Fide1-4/+11
When the ECC engine fails to decode a page, the driver re-reads the OOB area with the engine bypassed, but runs the erased-page check for the data area on the buffer left in the controller SRAM by the failed transfer. That buffer does not hold what is on the flash: the failing engine writes a bogus single-bit "correction" into it. In the 60-byte ECC mode the all-0xff content of an erased page always decodes to the same error location, so every erased page shows one stale zero bit at data offset 0x5FD, which the erased-page check then reports as a corrected bitflip. Edward Karpicz discovered this behaviour and identified the offset on a Colibri VF61; the analysis and the fix build on his finding. Measured with an instrumented driver on a Colibri VF50 (MX30LF1G18AC, 32-bit ECC): reading a 126 MiB partition with nanddump increased the corrected counter by 18035, exactly one per erased page, while raw reads of the same pages return clean 0xff. A v4.4 kernel on the VF61 (MX30LF4G28AC) accumulates the same false counts, so the behaviour follows the controller rather than the chip or the driver generation. Neither the Vybrid reference manual nor the published mask set errata (VFXXX_2N02G) document it. The 45-byte ECC mode is not affected. Restoring the known byte is not enough: on pages that fail to decode with content other than all-0xff the engine writes its correction wherever the syndrome points (measured at a different offset on such a page), so the check has to run on what the flash holds. Re-read the data area with the ECC engine bypassed, exactly as already done for the OOB area. The corrected counter then stays at zero on both boards. 2026-09-04mtd: rawnand: vf610_nfc: fix reads on chips with more than 64 bytes of OOBMehmet Fide1-12/+60
The controller transfers 64 spare bytes per page and the driver only implements the matching 64-byte ECC layout, so attach_chip() shrinks mtd->oobsize when the chip provides more. That clamp does not survive: nand_scan_tail() runs nanddev_init() after ->attach_chip(), and it restores mtd->oobsize from the memory organization, which still holds the value detected from the chip. The driver then transfers writesize plus the chip's full OOB size, the hardware ECC parity ends up at a different offset than the layout the controller was set up for, and every ECC-protected read fails with -EBADMSG. Measured on a Colibri VF61 (MX30LF4G28AC, 2048-byte pages, 112 bytes of OOB): with the clamp lost, UBI cannot read the erase counter headers of the pages U-Boot has just written, and the on-flash bad block table written by an older kernel reads back with ECC errors, so the board does not boot. Kernels before commit a7ab085d7c16 ("mtd: rawnand: Initialize the nand_device object") are not affected because nothing overwrote the clamp there, which is why the same chip works with a v4.4 kernel and with U-Boot, whose copy of this driver has no memory organization to restore the value from. Edward Karpicz reported that the clamp no longer takes effect on this chip; see the link below. Instead of modifying the memory organization, keep the detected OOB size and give the driver its own mtd_ooblayout_ops: the same layout the NAND core uses for large pages, but computed on the first 64 OOB bytes instead of the whole OOB, so the ECC bytes stay where U-Boot and the old kernels put them. The data paths transfer writesize plus those 64 bytes, as the controller always has. Since mtd->oobsize now reports the chip's real spare size, fill the tail of oob_poi with 0xff after the 64 transferred bytes on ECC page reads: the core may copy the full mtd->oobsize from it, which would otherwise expose whatever the buffer held before. 0xff also matches what a raw read returns from flash, since the write path only ever programs the first 64 spare bytes. 2026-08-10mtd: rawnand: sunxi: fix H6/H616 controller timingsJames Hilliard1-13/+36
The NAND timing calculation assumes that command and address setup and hold intervals T1-T4, T7 and T11 each take one controller clock. It also uses the original A10 delay encodings for tWB, tADL, tWHR and tRHW. The H6/H616 NDFC defines the setup and hold intervals as two internal clock cycles and uses different delay encodings. Add the H616 timing characteristics and select them through the controller capability data so the clock solver and timing fields match the hardware. 2026-08-10mtd: rawnand: sunxi: describe tADL and tWHR delaysJames Hilliard1-10/+20
The tADL and tWHR timing fields use four encoded delays, but the driver currently derives their values with a shift. This hides the actual controller timing characteristics and lets the clock solver select a 32-cycle delay that the fields cannot encode. Describe the legacy 7, 15, 23 and 31 cycle thresholds explicitly and use the tables for both clock selection and field lookup. This prepares the driver for controllers with different encodings. 2026-08-10mtd: rawnand: sunxi: group controller delay tablesJames Hilliard1-8/+28
The tWB and tRHW timing field encodings are controller properties, but they currently live in standalone lookup tables. Group them in a timing descriptor selected through the controller capability data. Point every existing controller at the legacy values so this is a pure preparation change. 2026-08-07mtd: rawnand: validate ONFI extended parameter page sectionsPengpeng Hou1-2/+25
nand_flash_detect_ext_param_page() allocates the length declared by the ONFI parameter page, then treats the data as a fixed header followed by variable-length sections. It reads that header and advances over sections without first proving that the fixed page and each current section fit in the allocation. Reject pages shorter than the fixed header, track the remaining variable area while walking sections, and require the ECC section to contain every field read from struct onfi_ext_ecc_info. Use device-scoped diagnostics that identify the malformed ONFI section. 2026-08-07mtd: rawnand: sunxi: add H616 MBUS DMA supportJames Hilliard1-16/+104
The H616 NAND controller uses a descriptor-based internal MBUS DMA engine instead of the direct address and count registers used by the A23/A33 controller. Since the driver does not support these descriptors, it currently attempts to request an external rxtx DMA channel and falls back to PIO when none is provided. Add a single-descriptor backend to the existing ECC page DMA paths. Allocate the descriptor coherently, constrain data mappings to the controller's 32-bit address range, program the H6-style data block mask, and request an interrupt for both command and DMA completion. Keep the existing external DMA and legacy MBUS DMA paths unchanged, and fall back to PIO if the descriptor cannot be allocated. 2026-07-17mtd: mpc5121_nfc: use platform for irq and ioremapRosen Penev1-27/+12
Replace the open-coded of_address_to_resource() plus devm_request_mem_region() and devm_ioremap() sequence with a single devm_platform_ioremap_resource() call, which folds the resource lookup, region reservation and mapping into one step and returns an ERR_PTR on failure, checked with IS_ERR() and propagated via PTR_ERR(). Switch IRQ acquisition from irq_of_parse_and_map() to platform_get_irq(), which only retrieves the interrupt the OF/platform core has already set up rather than transferring mapping ownership to the driver. Drop the now unneeded of_irq.h include. This is behaviorally equivalent: the driver already reserved the region with devm_request_mem_region(), so the non-overlapping reg requirement of devm_platform_ioremap_resource() was already satisfied. Drop the now-unused regs_paddr / regs_size locals, which previously only fed the open-coded request/ioremap calls. Keep the linux/of_address.h include, as of_iomap() is still used elsewhere in the driver. Built for PowerPC (mpc512x_defconfig + CONFIG_MTD_NAND_MPC5121_NFC) with LLVM=1; drivers/mtd/nand/raw/mpc5121_nfc.o compiles cleanly. 2026-07-17mtd: nand-omap2: Move omap_nand_ids[] to raw nand driverUwe Kleine-König (The Capable Hub)1-1/+5
Defining a static array in a header results in each .c file that includes the header (here: drivers/memory/omap-gpmc.c and drivers/mtd/nand/raw/omap2.c) to contain a copy of that array when compiled to an object file. With sizeof(struct of_device_id[3]) ≥ 588 having omap_nand_ids[] twice just to do two string comparisons is quite some bloat. So move omap_nand_ids[] to the nand driver which actually needs that array for its module meta data and do the compatible check by hand. bloat-o-meter reports for drivers/memory/omap-gpmc.o (ARCH=arm): add/remove: 1/2 grow/shrink: 1/0 up/down: 28/-588 (-560) Function old new delta gpmc_probe_generic_child 2108 2136 +28 omap_nand_ids 588 - -588 Total: Before=18114, After=17554, chg -3.09% (drivers/mtd/nand/raw/omap2.o doesn't change). This allows to drop <linux/mod_devicetable.h> from include/linux/platform_data/mtd-nand-omap2.h (which is my original motivation for this change). Note that this header isn't needed in the two drivers because omap-gpmc.c doesn't use any device id struct and for the nand driver omap2.c of_device_id is already provided via <linux/platform_device.h>. ingenic_ecc_get() obtains a provider device reference and then enables the ECC clock before returning the ECC handle. The clk_prepare_enable() return value is currently ignored. Initializing a pci_device_id using plain list expressions is hard to understand for a human who isn't into the Linux PCI subsystem. So for each initializer use one of the PCI_DEVICE macros for .vendor, .device, .subvendor and .subdevice and named initializers for the remaining assignments. This makes it easier to parse and also more robust against chagnes to the struct definition. Also drop useless zeros and commas. The mentioned robustness is relevant for a planned change to struct pci_device_id that replaces .driver_data by an anonymous union. This change doesn't introduce changes to the compiled pci_device_id array. Tested on x86 and arm64. 2026-04-13MIPS/mtd: Handle READY GPIO in generic NAND platform dataLinus Walleij1-1/+23
The callbacks into the MIPS RB532 platform to read the GPIO pin indicating that the NAND chip is ready are oldschool and does not assign GPIOs as properties to the NAND device. Add a capability to the generic platform NAND chip driver to use a GPIO line to detect if a NAND chip is ready and override the platform-local drv_ready() callback with this check if the GPIO is present. In Allwinner SoCs, user data can be added in OOB before each ECC data. For older SoCs like A10, the user data size was the size of a register (4 bytes) and was mandatory before each ECC step. So, the A10 OOB Layout is: [4Bytes USER_DATA_STEP0] [ECC_STEP0 bytes] [4bytes USER_DATA_STEP1] [ECC_STEP1 bytes] ... NB: the BBM is stored at the beginning of the USER_DATA_STEP0. Now, for H6/H616 NAND flash controller, this user data can have a different size for each step. So, we are maximizing the user data length to use as many OOB bytes as possible. Timings of the nand are adjusted by pl35x_nfc_setup_interface() but actually applied by the pl35x_nand_select_target() function. If there is only one nand chip, the pl35x_nand_select_target() will only apply the timings once since the test at its beginning will always be true after the first call to this function. 2026-03-11mtd: rawnand: ifc: set chip->of_node to nand@0 child node if presentFrank Li1-1/+9
The nand-controller.yaml binding requires a child node (e.g. nand@0) under the NAND controller. However, the driver currently assigns the controller's of_node directly to the NAND chip. Search for the first child node with the "nand" prefix and assign it to chip->of_node. This filters out properties such as "partition" that may be placed under the controller node in some older DTS files. Fall back to using the controller's of_node if no suitable child node is found to maintain backward compatibility. This issue went unnoticed because the default behavior works for most NAND chips.
