All callers pass PHY_POLL, therefore remove irq argument from
fixed_phy_register().
Note: I keep the irq argument in fixed_phy_add_gpiod() for now,
for the case that somebody may want to use a GPIO interrupt in
the future, by e.g. adding a call to fwnode_irq_get() to
fixed_phy_get_gpiod().

After having factored out the provider part from mdio_bus.c, we can
make the mdio consumer / device layer a separate module. This also
allows to remove Kconfig symbol MDIO_DEVICE.
The module init / exit functions from mdio_bus.c no longer have to be
called from phy_device.c. The link order defined in
drivers/net/phy/Makefile ensures that init / exit functions are called
in the right order.

MDIO_DEVRES is only set where PHYLIB/PHYLINK are set which
select MDIO_DEVRES. So we can remove this symbol.
Note: Due to circular module dependencies we can't simply
make mdio_devres.c part of phylib.

After 52358dd63e34 ("net: phy: remove function stubs") there's a
problem if CONFIG_MDIO_BUS is set, but CONFIG_PHYLIB is not.
mdiobus_scan() uses phylib functions like get_phy_device().
Bringing back the stub wouldn't make much sense, because it would
allow to compile mdiobus_scan(), but the function would be unusable.
The stub returned NULL, and we have the following in mdiobus_scan():
phydev = get_phy_device(bus, addr, c45);
if (IS_ERR(phydev))
return phydev;
So calling mdiobus_scan() w/o CONFIG_PHYLIB would cause a crash later in
mdiobus_scan(). In general the PHYLIB functionality isn't optional here.
Consequently, MDIO bus providers depend on PHYLIB.
Therefore factor it out and build it together with the libphy core
modules. In addition make all MDIO bus providers under /drivers/net/mdio
depend on PHYLIB. Same applies to enetc MDIO bus provider. Note that
PHYLIB selects MDIO_DEVRES, therefore we can omit this here.

This bit is necessary to receive packets from the internal PHY.
Without this bit set, no activity occurs on the interface.
Normally u-boot sets this bit, but if u-boot is compiled without
net support, the interface will be up but without any activity.
If bit is set once, it will work until the IP is powered down or reset.
The vendor SDK sets this bit along with the PHY_ID bits.

The currently used function pci_request_regions() is one of the
problematic "hybrid devres" PCI functions, which are sometimes managed
through devres, and sometimes not (depending on whether
pci_enable_device() or pcim_enable_device() has been called before).
The PCI subsystem wants to remove this behavior and, therefore, needs to
port all users to functions that don't have this problem.
Furthermore, the PCI function being managed implies that it's not
necessary to call pci_release_regions() manually.
Remove the calls to pci_release_regions().
Replace pci_request_regions() with pcim_request_all_regions().

All callers of these functions depend on PHYLIB or select it directly
or indirectly by selecting PHYLINK. Stubs make sense for optional
functionality, but that's not the case here.
MDIO_XGENE usually is selected by NET_XGENE which also selects PHYLIB.
Add a dependency to PHYLIB nevertheless, in order not to break
randconfig builds.

Add a driver for the MDIO controller on the RTL9300 family of Ethernet
switches with integrated SoC. There are 4 physical SMI interfaces on the
RTL9300 however access is done using the switch ports. The driver takes
the MDIO bus hierarchy from the DTS and uses this to configure the
switch ports so they are associated with the correct PHY. This mapping
is also used when dealing with software requests from phylib.

PHYs that are within copper SFP modules have their MDIO bus accessible
through address 0x56 (usually) on the i2c bus. The MDIO-I2C bridge is
desgned for 16 bits accesses, but we can also perform 8bits accesses by
reading/writing the high and low bytes sequentially.
This commit adds support for this type of accesses, thus supporting
smbus controllers such as the one in the VSC8552.
This was only tested on Copper SFP modules that embed a Marvell 88e1111
PHY.

fwnode_find_mii_timestamper() calls of_parse_phandle_with_fixed_args()
but does not decrement the refcount of the obtained OF node. Add an
of_node_put() call before returning from the function.
This bug was detected by an experimental static analysis tool that I am
developing.

After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove()
return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for
platform drivers.
Convert all platform drivers below drivers/net/mdio to use .remove(),
with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As
.remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done
by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer.

There has already been an issue with the handling of early exits from
device_for_each_child() in this driver, and it was solved with commit
b1de5c78ebe9 ("net: mdio: thunder: Add missing fwnode_handle_put()") by
adding a call to fwnode_handle_put() right after the loop.
That solution is valid indeed, but if a new error path with a 'return'
is added to the loop, this solution will fail. A more secure approach
is using the scoped variant of the macro, which automatically
decrements the refcount of the child node when it goes out of scope,
removing the need for explicit calls to fwnode_handle_put().

Replace of_get_property() with the type specific
of_property_count_u32_elems() to get the property length.
This is part of a larger effort to remove callers of of_get_property()
and similar functions. of_get_property() leaks the DT property data
pointer which is a problem for dynamically allocated nodes which may
be freed.

Up until now we have managed not to have the mdio-bcm-unimac manage its
clock except during probe and suspend/resume. This works most of the
time, except where it does not.
With a fully modular build, we can get into a situation whereby the
GENET driver is fully registered, and so is the mdio-bcm-unimac driver,
however the Ethernet PHY driver is not yet, because it depends on a
resource that is not yet available (e.g.: GPIO provider). In that state,
the network device is not usable yet, and so to conserve power, the
GENET driver will have turned off its "main" clock which feeds its MDIO
controller.
When the PHY driver finally probes however, we make an access to the PHY
registers to e.g.: disable interrupts, and this causes a bus error
within the MDIO controller space because the MDIO controller clock(s)
are turned off.
To remedy that, we manage the clock around all of the I/O accesses to
the hardware which are done exclusively during read, write and clock
divider configuration.
This ensures that the register space is accessible, and this also
ensures that there are not unnecessarily elevated reference counts
keeping the clocks active when the network device is administratively
turned off. It would be the case with the previous way of managing the
clock.

Add support for scanning PHY in PHY package nodes. PHY packages nodes
are just container for actual PHY on the MDIO bus.
Their PHY address defined in the PHY package node are absolute and
reflect the address on the MDIO bus.
mdio_bus.c and of_mdio.c is updated to now support and parse also
PHY package subnode by checking if the node name match
"ethernet-phy-package".
As PHY package reg is mandatory and each PHY in the PHY package must
have a reg, every invalid PHY Package node is ignored and will be
skipped by the autoscan fallback.

The IPQ4019 MDIO internally divide the clock feed by AHB based on the
MDIO_MODE reg. On reset or power up, the default value for the
divider is 0xff that reflect the divider set to /256.
This makes the MDC run at a very low rate, that is, considering AHB is
always fixed to 100Mhz, a value of 390KHz.
This hasn't have been a problem as MDIO wasn't used for time sensitive
operation, it is now that on IPQ807x is usually mounted with PHY that
requires MDIO to load their firmware (example Aquantia PHY).
To handle this problem and permit to set the correct designed MDC
frequency for the SoC add support for the standard "clock-frequency"
property for the MDIO node.
The divider supports value from /1 to /256 and the common value are to
set it to /16 to reflect 6.25Mhz or to /8 on newer platform to reflect
12.5Mhz.
To scan if the requested rate is supported by the divider, loop with
each supported divider and stop when the requested rate match the final
rate with the current divider. An error is returned if the rate doesn't
match any value.
On MDIO reset, the divider is restored to the requested value to prevent
any kind of downclocking caused by the divider reverting to a default
value.
To follow 802.3 spec of 2.5MHz of default value, if divider is set at
/256 and "clock-frequency" is not set in DT, assume nobody set the
divider and try to find the closest MDC rate to 2.5MHz. (in the case of
AHB set to 100MHz, it's 1.5625MHz)
While at is also document other bits of the MDIO_MODE reg to have a
clear idea of what is actually applied there.
Documentation of some BITs is skipped as they are marked as reserved and
their usage is not clear (RES 11:9 GENPHY 16:13 RES1 19:17)

The __of_mdiobus_register() function was storing the device node in
dev.of_node without increasing its reference count. It implicitly relied
on the caller to maintain the allocated node until the mdiobus was
unregistered.
Now, __of_mdiobus_register() will acquire the node before assigning it,
and of_mdiobus_unregister_callback() will be called at the end of
mdio_unregister().
Drivers can now release the node immediately after MDIO registration.
Some of them are already doing that even before this patch.

After the mii_bus API conversion to a split read() / read_c45(), there
might be MDIO parent buses which only populate the read_c45() and
write_c45() function pointers but not the C22 variants.
We haven't seen these in the wild paired with MDIO multiplexers, but
Andrew points out we should treat the corner case.

With a clock interval of 400 nsec and a 64 bit transactions (32 bit
preamble & 16 bit control & 16 bit data), it is reasonable to assume
the mdio transaction will take 25.6 usec. Add a 30 usec delay before
the first poll to reduce the chance of a 1000-2000 usec sleep.
Reduce the timeout from 1000ms to 100ms as it is unlikely for the bus
to take this long.

strncpy() is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings
[1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string
interfaces.
We expect new_bus->id to be NUL-terminated but not NUL-padded based on
its prior assignment through snprintf:

Due to this, a suitable replacement is `strscpy` [2] due to the fact

unnecessarily NUL-padding.
We can also use sizeof() instead of a length macro as this more closely
ties the maximum buffer size to the destination buffer. Do this for two
instances.

Commit a243ecc323b9 ("net: mdio: xgene: Use device_get_match_data()")
dropped the unconditional use of xgene_mdio_of_match resulting in this
warning:
drivers/net/mdio/mdio-xgene.c:303:34: warning: unused variable 'xgene_mdio_of_match' [-Wunused-const-variable]
The fix is to drop of_match_ptr() which is not necessary because DT is
always used for this driver (well, it could in theory support ACPI only,
but CONFIG_OF is always enabled for arm64).

The mii_bus API conversion to read_c45() and write_c45() did not cover
the mdio-mux driver before read() and write() were made C22-only.
This broke arch/arm64/boot/dts/freescale/fsl-ls1028a-qds-13bb.dtso.
The -EOPNOTSUPP from mdiobus_c45_read() is transformed by
get_phy_c45_devs_in_pkg() into -EIO, is further propagated to
of_mdiobus_register() and this makes the mdio-mux driver fail to probe
the entire child buses, not just the PHYs that cause access errors.
Fix the regression by introducing special c45 read and write accessors
to mdio-mux which forward the operation to the parent MDIO bus.

returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart
from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks.
To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return
void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to
.remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers
are converted, .remove_new() is renamed to .remove().
Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove
callback to the void returning variant.
