2026-09-23s390/cio: Fix NULL pointer dereference in ccw_device_get_util_str()Vineeth Vijayan1-0/+2
The channel path registry entry associated with a CHPID may be removed while the subchannel's PMCW still references that CHPID. In this case, chpid_to_chp() can return NULL, leading to a NULL pointer dereference. Add the missing NULL check before dereferencing the returned pointer. 2026-09-22s390/cmf: Fix virtual vs physical address confusionPeter Oberparleiter2-3/+4
The measurement block address is an absolute address. Define the associated schib_config and schib fields as dma64_t to enable automatic detection of incorrect assignments. Also add the missing virt_to_dma64() translation. Without this fix, a wrong address will be used by firmware when storing extended format channel measurement data on kernels built with CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_IDENTITY_BASE=y. 2026-09-17s390/cio: Guard PMCW field accesses with dnv checkVineeth Vijayan5-5/+21
When PMCW.DNV is 0, no I/O device is associated with the subchannel. However, several code paths access PMCW fields directly from the cached sch->schib without first invoking the update helper. Add explicit DNV validation before accessing PMCW fields from the cached SCHIB to avoid using invalid data. 2026-09-17s390/cio: Check pmcw.dnv before pmcw.ena in I/O entry pointsVineeth Vijayan1-0/+12
The device number valid (dnv) bit in the PMCW must be checked before acting on any other PMCW fields for IO-type subchannels. A subchannel with dnv=0 has no valid device number associated, making it meaningless to evaluate the enabled (ena) state or issue any I/O instruction against it. Pull s390 updates from Vasily Gorbik: - Add a cpuidle driver with polling and enabled wait states using the existing CPU idle infrastructure and idle governor to improve latency for frequent sleep/wakeup cycles. Remove the obsolete tick delay heuristic and generic arch_needs_cpu() hook. Add the corresponding driver entry to MAINTAINERS - Add kCFI support using the generic support provided by Clang - Enable Clang CONTEXT_ANALYSIS for various architecture code and for char, PCI, CIO and virtio drivers. Add required lock annotations, exclude unsupported mm helpers and remove conditional PCI locking - Fix secure storage access exception handling and reintroduce DCACHE_WORD_ACCESS previously removed as a workaround - Fix cpum_cf perf crashes when CPUs are brought online while per-task events are active. Allocate and remove per-CPU counter data from CPU hotplug callbacks - Fix a deadlock when an s390dbf debug area is unregistered while one of its debugfs files is being written to - Fix MVIY_PERCPU() with binutils older than 2.39, where an assembler macro silently omitted an instruction needed to repair interrupted operations after CPU migration - Remove/replace cond_resched() calls which are no-ops with the supported s390 preemption models - Fix AP queue depth and maximum message length decoding according to the architecture. Current hardware is not affected, but future hardware could report values which were handled incorrectly - Reflect the configured CPU state in cpu_enabled_mask so deconfigured CPUs are not presented as available for onlining - Restore the vDSO GNU_EH_FRAME program header which was lost when the build switched to direct linker invocation, and mark it read-only - Add SCLP action qualifiers used by Spyre for card initialization, recoverable error and telemetry reporting - Move KMSAN interrupt flag helpers out of line to fix -Wstatic-in-inline build warnings - Use level-specific page table entry accessors for hugetlb entries and ptep_get() when accessing crashed kernel memory in kdump - Make forced AP bus rescans killable so that a user process blocked behind an ongoing scan can still be terminated with SIGKILL - Rework pkey ioctl error paths to remove duplicated cleanup code and avoid freeing error pointers - Allow the protected guest SWIOTLB buffer to be allocated outside the first 2GB. Also enable dynamic SWIOTLB growth and the coherent atomic pool fallback to improve I/O behavior when the initial pool is exhausted - Add program check statistics and spinlock contention tracepoints. Increase the lockdep chain capacity to keep lockdep enabled for complex code paths such as btrfs - Simplify IPL, trap and syscall code and remove the obsolete unistd_32.h generation entry * tag 's390-7.3-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/s390/linux: (59 commits) s390/percpu: Fix MVIY_PERCPU() with older binutils s390/debug: Fix deadlock during unregister s390/cpum_cf: Handle CPU hotplug via prepare/dead callbacks s390: Enable CONTEXT_ANALYSIS for various directories s390/mm: Add __context_unsafe() attribute to gmap helper functions s390/mm: Add __context_unsafe() attribute to do_secure_storage_access() s390/sysinfo: Add context analysis attributes s390/irqflags: Add out-of-line definitions of arch_local_irq_*() for KMSAN s390/virtio: Enable CONTEXT_ANALYSIS s390/cio: Enable CONTEXT_ANALYSIS s390/vfio_ccw: Add __must_hold() attribute to vfio_ccw_sch_quiesce() s390/pci: Enable CONTEXT_ANALYSIS s390/pci: Rework __zpci_event_availability() to remove conditional locking s390/pci: Rework __zpci_event_error() to remove conditional locking s390/char: Enable CONTEXT_ANALYSIS s390/con3215: Add __must_hold() attribute to raw3215_make_room() s390/ap: Fix MAPML computation s390/cio: Remove cond_resched() calls s390: Remove cond_resched() calls KVM: s390: Remove cond_resched() calls ...

2026-07-30s390/vfio_ccw: Implement a crw lockEric Farman4-10/+30

2026-07-30s390/vfio_ccw: Selectively expand io_mutexEric Farman5-5/+19
The io_mutex was defined to serialize the io_regions, but then has also sort of been associated with the I/O themselves because of the close relationship they share. With the handful of races that are possible, the choices are either to: A) expand the scope of io_mutex to close these remaining windows, or B) reduce the scope of io_mutex to just io_region, and introduce a new lock mechanism for the remaining I/O resources This patch implements A, since B brings with it a lot more interactions that would need to be tracked and kept in a correct hierarchy. It also takes advantage of the workqueue element for cp_free() that now gets called out of fsm_notoper(), which could be invoked out of an interrupt context and thus cannot acquire a mutex itself. 2026-07-30s390/vfio_ccw: Move cp cleanup out of not operationalEric Farman4-2/+26
The fsm_notoper() routine is called when the device has been lost, and is (by definition) no longer operational. Since this can happen asynchronously from the normal behavior of the driver, the cleanup may happen when holding other locks in the calling sequence (notably, the cio subchannel lock). Push the cleanup of the private->cp resources to a workqueue, where it can be done out from under that lock sequence and a future patch can safely manage the locking requirements. 2026-07-30s390/vfio_ccw: Calculate idal length based on idaw typeEric Farman1-2/+3
Sashiko pointed out that get_guest_idal() unconditionally calculates the length of the IDAL presuming everything is a Format-2 IDAW. The output of vfio-ccw is always Format-2, but the input can be either Format-1 (31-bit addresses) or Format-2 (64-bit addresses). As a result, the size of the guest IDAL may be incorrect and should be trimmed down. 2026-07-30s390/vfio_ccw: Fix out of bounds check on CCW arrayEric Farman1-12/+5
The routine ccwchain_calc_length() counts the number of channel command words (CCWs) that are chained together in a single channel program, and rejects anything larger than CCWCHAIN_LEN_MAX (256) CCWs. The loop itself is "do..while (count < 257)", and while the logic in is_cpa_within_range() correctly adjusts between the 0-index array of CCWs and the count of CCWs starting at 1, this means it would look at a possible 257th CCW before ending the loop and (correctly) returning an error. Fix this by restructuring the loop to break as soon as 256 CCWs (thus indexes 0-255) are examined, without looking at memory outside the range. 2026-07-30s390/vfio_ccw: Limit the number of channel program segmentsEric Farman2-0/+14
The processing of channel programs, and the CCWs within them, is done recursively. As such, there is an arbitrary (but not architectural) limit to the number of CCWs that can exist in a single channel program. The vfio-ccw logic breaks these channel programs into segments whenever it encounters a Transfer-In-Channel (TIC) CCW, and the combined number of segments count towards the global limit. Impose an equivalent limit to the number of segments until such logic can be made non-recursive. 2026-07-30s390/vfio_ccw: Free all memory if cp_init() failsEric Farman1-4/+18
The routine cp_free() is called to unpin/free any memory once an I/O is completed successfully, or if cp_prefetch() fails. But if cp_init() fails, and cp->initialized is not enabled, the same routine cannot be used to free all the memory. An attempt to address this exists in ccwchain_handle_ccw(), where a single call to ccwchain_free() is made for the currently-processed CCW segment. But this will leak other segments (created as a result of a Transfer in Channel) that had been allocated as part of the same channel program. Address this by performing the cleanup outside of the recursive ccwchain_handle_ccw()/ccwchain_loop_tic() logic. 2026-02-21Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL argumentsLinus Torvalds3-6/+3
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next line. Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial. So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed' scripts. The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want whitespace cleanup anyway. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. 2026-02-05s390/cio: Fix device lifecycle handling in css_alloc_subchannel()Salah Triki1-1/+1
`css_alloc_subchannel()` calls `device_initialize()` before setting up the DMA masks. If `dma_set_coherent_mask()` or `dma_set_mask()` fails, the error path frees the subchannel structure directly, bypassing the device model reference counting. Once `device_initialize()` has been called, the embedded struct device must be released via `put_device()`, allowing the release callback to free the container structure. Fix the error path by dropping the initial device reference with `put_device()` instead of calling `kfree()` directly. This ensures correct device lifetime handling and avoids potential use-after-free or double-free issues. 2025-03-18s390: Use inline qualifier for all EX_TABLE and ALTERNATIVE inline assembliesHeiko Carstens1-4/+4
Use asm_inline for all inline assemblies which make use of the EX_TABLE or ALTERNATIVE macros. These macros expand to many lines and the compiler assumes the number of lines within an inline assembly is the same as the number of instructions within an inline assembly. This has an effect on inlining and loop unrolling decisions. In order to avoid incorrect assumptions use asm_inline, which tells the compiler that an inline assembly has the smallest possible size. In order to avoid confusion when asm_inline should be used or not, since a couple of inline assemblies are quite large: the rule is to always use asm_inline whenever the EX_TABLE or ALTERNATIVE macro is used. In specific cases there may be reasons to not follow this guideline, but that should be documented with the corresponding code. Using the inline qualifier everywhere has only a small effect on the kernel image size: add/remove: 0/10 grow/shrink: 19/8 up/down: 1492/-1858 (-366) The only location where this seems to matter is load_unaligned_zeropad() from word-at-a-time.h where the compiler inlines more functions within the dcache code, which is indeed code where performance matters.
