The 13 comment blocks in dds.h noting which sysfs attribute each
convenience macro creates are opened with the kernel-doc /** marker,
but they are not kernel-doc: there is no identifier to document.
Running kernel-doc on the file emits 103 warnings:
$ scripts/kernel-doc -none drivers/staging/iio/frequency/dds.h
Warning: drivers/staging/iio/frequency/dds.h:10 Cannot find
identifier on line:
* /sys/bus/iio/devices/.../out_altvoltageX_frequencyY
The header is not scanned during normal builds (build-time kernel-doc
checks cover .c files), so the warnings only show up when kernel-doc
is invoked on the file directly.
The comments have carried the /** marker since the file was introduced
in commit 4851d97d87c8 ("Staging: IIO: dds.h convenience macros"). The
attributes themselves are already documented in
drivers/staging/iio/Documentation/sysfs-bus-iio-dds, so demote the
comments to plain /* style rather than converting them into kernel-doc
for the macros. No functional change.

Linux 7.2-rc2
Done to resolve conflicts with header reorg around mod_devicetable.h
and provide a base for other inflight series that touch the includes.
|
|
Replace the #include of <linux/mod_devicetable.h> by the more specific
<linux/device-id/*.h> where applicable. For most cases the include
can be dropped completely, only a few drivers need one or two headers
added.

The IIO subsystem convention requires that the file permission
(_mode) parameter be the first argument of IIO_DEV_ATTR_* macros.
The dds.h macros had _mode after _channel, causing checkpatch to
misinterpret the channel number as a permission value.
Reorder the parameters so _mode is first, matching the convention
established by IIO_DEV_ATTR_SAMP_FREQ in include/linux/iio/sysfs.h.
Where _mode is hard coded, make it a parameter in the interests
of consistency and update all callers to match previously hard coded
value.
Update all callers in ad9834.c and ad9832.c accordingly.
Compile tested.

While being less compact, using named initializers allows to more easily
see which members of the structs are assigned which value without having
to lookup the declaration of the struct. And it's also more robust
against changes to the struct definition.
The mentioned robustness is relevant for a planned change to struct
spi_device_id that replaces .driver_data by an anonymous union.
This patch doesn't modify the compiled arrays, only their representation
in source form benefits. The former was confirmed with x86 and arm64
builds.

Remove legacy platform_data support as there are no in tree users and
this approach belongs to a long gone era. The policy decision on what
to output is a userspace problem, not something that should be provided
from firmware.
The driver now initializes the device to a safe state (SLEEP|RESET|CLR)
outputting nothing. Userspace can configure the desired frequencies and
phases via the existing sysfs attributes once the device is ready to be
used.

Use `\t(\{ ?\},|\{\}|\{\s*/\*.*\*/\s*\},?)$` regex to find and replace
the array sentinel in all IIO drivers to the same style.
For some time, we've been trying to consistently use `{ }` (no trailing
comma, no comment, one space between braces) for array sentinels in the
IIO subsystem. Still nearly 50% of existing code uses a different style.
To save reviewers from having to request this trivial change as
frequently, let's normalize the style in all existing IIO drivers.
At least when code is copy/pasted to new drivers, the style will be
consistent.

User Perspective:
When a user sets the phase value, the ad9832_write_phase() is called.
The phase register has a 12-bit resolution, so the valid range is 0 to
4095. If the phase offset value of 4096 is input, it effectively exactly
equals 0 in the lower 12 bits, meaning no offset.
Reasons for the Change:
1) Original Condition (phase > BIT(AD9832_PHASE_BITS)):
This condition allows a phase value equal to 2^12, which is 4096.
However, this value exceeds the valid 12-bit range, as the maximum valid
phase value should be 4095.
2) Modified Condition (phase >= BIT(AD9832_PHASE_BITS)):
Ensures that the phase value is within the valid range, preventing
invalid datafrom being written.
Impact on Subsequent Logic: st->data = cpu_to_be16(addr | phase):
If the phase value is 2^12, i.e., 4096 (0001 0000 0000 0000), and addr
is AD9832_REG_PHASE0 (1100 0000 0000 0000), then addr | phase results in
1101 0000 0000 0000, occupying DB12. According to the section of WRITING
TO A PHASE REGISTER in the datasheet, the MSB 12 PHASE0 bits should be
DB11. The original condition leads to incorrect DB12 usage, which
contradicts the datasheet and could pose potential issues for future
updates if DB12 is used in such related cases.

In the ad9832_write_frequency() function, clk_get_rate() might return 0.
This can lead to a division by zero when calling ad9832_calc_freqreg().
The check if (fout > (clk_get_rate(st->mclk) / 2)) does not protect
against the case when fout is 0. The ad9832_write_frequency() function
is called from ad9832_write(), and fout is derived from a text buffer,

The devm_clk_get_enabled() helper:
- calls devm_clk_get()
- calls clk_prepare_enable() and registers what is needed in order to
call clk_disable_unprepare() when needed, as a managed resource.
This simplifies the code and avoids the need of a dedicated function used
with devm_add_action_or_reset().

probe function. For the clock and regulator disable, some
devm_add_action_or_reset() calls are required, and then

...
- I->dev.parent = P;
It updates 302 files and does 307 deletions.
This semantic patch also removes some comments like
'/* Establish that the iio_dev is a child of the i2c device */'
But this is is only done in case where the block is left empty.
The patch does not seem to cover all cases. It looks like in some cases a
different variable is used in some cases to assign the parent, but it
points to the same reference.
In other cases, the block covered by ... may be just too big to be covered
by the semantic patch.
However, this looks pretty good as well, as it does cover a big bulk of the
drivers that should remove the parent assignment.

The clock frequency is loaded from device-tree using clock framework
instead of statically value. The change allow configuration of
the device via device-trees and better initialization sequence.
This is part of broader effort to add device-tree support to this driver
and take it out from staging.

The equivalent of this is now done via macro magic when

elements will shortly go away.
