The patches in this thread allow us to use the block pr_ops with LIO's
target_core_iblock module to support cluster applications in VMs. They
were built over Linus's tree. They also apply over linux-next and
Martin's tree and Jens's trees.
Currently, to use windows clustering or linux clustering (pacemaker +
cluster labs scsi fence agents) in VMs with LIO and vhost-scsi, you
have to use tcmu or pscsi or use a cluster aware FS/framework for the
LIO pr file. Setting up a cluster FS/framework is pain and waste when
your real backend device is already a distributed device, and pscsi
and tcmu are nice for specific use cases, but iblock gives you the
best performance and allows you to use stacked devices like
dm-multipath. So these patches allow iblock to work like pscsi/tcmu
where they can pass a PR command to the backend module. And then
iblock will use the pr_ops to pass the PR command to the real devices
similar to what we do for unmap today.
The patches are separated in the following groups:
Patch 1 - 2:
- Add block layer callouts for reading reservations and rename reservation
error code.
Patch 3 - 5:
- SCSI support for new callouts.
Patch 6:
- DM support for new callouts.
Patch 7 - 13:
- NVMe support for new callouts.
Patch 14 - 18:
- LIO support for new callouts.
This patchset has been tested with the libiscsi PGR ops and with
window's failover cluster verification test. Note that for scsi
backend devices we need this patchset:

The backend modules don't know about ports and I_T nexuses and the pr_ops
callouts the modules will use don't support the old RESERVE/RELEASE
commands. This patch has us report we don't support those types of
commands and fail them.

The iblock pr_ops support does not support commands that require port or
I_T Nexus info. This adds a struct target_opcode_descriptor as an argument
to the enabled callout so we can still have the common tcm_is_pr_enabled
and tcm_is_scsi2_reservations_enabled functions and also determine if the
command is supported based on the command and service action and device
settings.

The next patches allow us to call the block layer's pr_ops from the
backends. This will require allowing the backends to hook into the cmd
processing for SPC commands, so this renames sbc_ops to a more generic
exec_cmd_ops.

A MAXIMUM TRANSFER LENGTH value indicates the maximum transfer length in
logical blocks that the device server accepts for a single command. Fix
function sending the length in sectors instead of blocks.
This patch also removes the special casing for fileio in block_size_store
since this logic in now unified in spc_emulate_evpd_b0() for all backends.

libiscsi tests check the support of DPO & FUA bits in usage bits of RSOC
response. This patch adds support for dynamic usage bits for each opcode.
Set support of DPO & FUA bits in usage_bits of RSOC response depending on

SAM-5 4.8.3 (SCSI target device with multiple SCSI ports structure)
obligates to set MULTIP bit when there's multiple SCSI target ports:
Each device server shall indicate the presence of multiple SCSI
target ports by setting the MULTIP bit to one in its standard
INQUIRY data (see SPC-4).
Set MULTIP bit automatically to indicate the presence of multiple SCSI
target ports within standard inquiry response data if there are
multiple target ports in all target port groups of the se_device.

Target does not support some VPD pages and is very verbose about it.
Sometimes initiators don't bother and just keep sending the same request
from time to time, filling up the logs.
This patch lowers the message priority to debug.

Fix the sparse warnings about t10_alua_tg_pt_gp accesses in
target_core_spc.c caused by commit 7324f47d4293 ("scsi: target: Replace
lun_tg_pt_gp_lock with rcu in I/O path")
That commit replaced the lun_tg_pt_gp_lock use in the I/O path, but it
didn't update the INQUIRY code.

Extend the standard INQUIRY data to 96 bytes and fill in the VERSION
DESCRIPTOR fields.
The layout follows SPC-4:
- SCSI architecture standard
- SCSI transport protocol standard
- SCSI primary command set standard
- SCSI device type command set standard
All version descriptor values are defined as "no version claimed" because
some initiators fail to recognize anything else.

Both the INQUIRY handling and the XCOPY implementation provide functions to
generate an NAA designator. In addition, these functions are poorly named:
- spc_parse_naa_6h_vendor_specific()
- target_xcopy_gen_naa_ieee()

The emulate_ua_intlck_ctrl device attribute accepts values of 0, 1 or 2 via
ConfigFS, which map to unit attention interlocks control codes in the MODE
SENSE control Mode Page. Use an enum to track these values so that it's
clear that, unlike the remaining emulate_X attributes,
emulate_ua_intlck_ctrl isn't boolean.

In preparation for supporting user provided vendor strings, add an extra
byte to the vendor, model and revision arrays in struct t10_wwn. This
ensures that the full INQUIRY data can be carried in the arrays along with
a null-terminator.
Change a number of array readers and writers so that they account for
explicit null-termination:
- The pscsi_set_inquiry_info() and emulate_model_alias_store() codepaths
don't currently explicitly null-terminate; fix this.
- Existing t10_wwn field dumps use for-loops which step over
null-terminators for right-padding.
+ Use printf with width specifiers instead.

spc5r17.pdf specifies:
4.3.1 ASCII data field requirements
ASCII data fields shall contain only ASCII printable characters (i.e.,
code values 20h to 7Eh) and may be terminated with one or more ASCII null
(00h) characters. ASCII data fields described as being left-aligned
shall have any unused bytes at the end of the field (i.e., highest
offset) and the unused bytes shall be filled with ASCII space characters
(20h).
LIO currently space-pads the T10 VENDOR IDENTIFICATION and PRODUCT
IDENTIFICATION fields in the standard INQUIRY data. However, the PRODUCT
REVISION LEVEL field in the standard INQUIRY data as well as the T10 VENDOR
IDENTIFICATION field in the INQUIRY Device Identification VPD Page are
zero-terminated/zero-padded.
Fix this inconsistency by using space-padding for all of the above fields.

The new emulate_pr backstore attribute allows for Persistent Reservation
and SCSI2 RESERVE/RELEASE support to be completely disabled. This can be
useful for scenarios such as:
- Ensuring ATS (Compare & Write) usage on recent VMware ESXi initiators.
- Allowing clustered (e.g. tcm-user) backends to block such requests,
avoiding the multi-node reservation state propagation.
When explicitly disabled, PR and RESERVE/RELEASE requests receive Invalid
Command Operation Code response sense data.

se_dev_entry.lun_flags and se_lun.lun_access are only used for keeping
track of read-write vs. read-only state. Since this is an either/or thing
we can represent it as bool, and remove the unneeded enum
transport_lunflags_table, which is left over from when there were more
flags.
Change code that uses this enum to just use true/false, and make it clear
through variable and param names that true means read-only, false means
read-write.

This change sets the LBPRZ flag in EVPD page b2h and READ CAPACITY (16)
based on a new unmap_zeroes_data device attribute. This flag is set
automatically for iblock based on underlying block device queue's
discard_zeroes_data flag.

This patch adds an optional fabric driver provided SGL limit
that target-core will honor as it's own internal I/O maximum
transfer length limit, as exposed by EVPD=0xb0 block limits
parameters.
This is required for handling cases when host I/O transfer
length exceeds the requested EVPD block limits maximum
transfer length. The initial user of this logic is qla2xxx,
so that we can avoid having to reject I/Os from some legacy
FC hosts where EVPD=0xb0 parameters are not honored.
When se_cmd payload length exceeds the provided limit in
target_check_max_data_sg_nents() code, se_cmd->data_length +
se_cmd->prot_length are reset with se_cmd->residual_count
plus underflow bit for outgoing TFO response callbacks.
It also checks for existing CDB level underflow + overflow

REPORT LUNS should not fail just because the allocation length is less
than 16. The relevant section of SPC-4 is:
4.2.5.6 Allocation length
The ALLOCATION LENGTH field specifies the maximum number of bytes or
blocks that an application client has allocated in the Data-In
Buffer. The ALLOCATION LENGTH field specifies bytes unless a
different requirement is stated in the command definition.
An allocation length of zero specifies that no data shall be
transferred. This condition shall not be considered an error.
So we should just truncate our response rather than return an error.

If an initiator doesn't have any real LUNs assigned, we should report
LUN 0 and a LUN list length of 1. Some versions of Solaris at least
go beserk if we report a LUN list length of 0.

Make the warning about unsupported SCSI opcode more useful:
- Add in the initiator name so we know who's sending it.
- Print the warning even for opcodes that spc_parse_cdb() knows about
but that we don't handle.

In case a LU spans 64bit sectors, fixed size sense data information
field is only 32 bits which means the sector information will be truncated.
Thus, if the LU spans 64bit sectors, use descriptor format sense data to
correctly report sector information.

Pull SCSI target updates from Nicholas Bellinger:
"It's been a busy development cycle for target-core in a number of
different areas.
The fabric API usage for se_node_acl allocation is now within
target-core code, dropping the external API callers for all fabric
drivers tree-wide.
There is a new conversion to RCU hlists for se_node_acl and
se_portal_group LUN mappings, that turns fast-past LUN lookup into a
completely lockless code-path. It also removes the original
hard-coded limitation of 256 LUNs per fabric endpoint.
The configfs attributes for backends can now be shared between core
and driver code, allowing existing drivers to use common code while
still allowing flexibility for new backend provided attributes.
The highlights include:

Only include SCSI initiator header files in target code that needs
these header files, namely the SCSI pass-through code and the tcm_loop
driver. Change SCSI_SENSE_BUFFERSIZE into TRANSPORT_SENSE_BUFFER in
target code because the former is intended for initiator code and the
latter for target code. With this patch the only initiator include
directives in target code that remain are as follows:

With se_port and t10_alua_tg_pt_gp_member being absored into se_lun,
there is no need for an extra lock to protect se_lun->lun_se_dev
assignment.
This patch also converts backend drivers to use call_rcu() release
to allow any se_device readers to complete. The call_rcu() instead
of kfree_rcu() is required here because se_device is embedded into
the backend driver specific structure.
Also, convert se_lun->lun_stats to use atomic_long_t within the
target_complete_ok_work() completion callback, and add FIXME for
transport_lookup_tmr_lun() with se_lun->lun_ref.
Finally, update sbp_update_unit_directory() special case usage with
proper rcu_dereference_raw() and configfs symlink comment.

This patch eliminates all se_port + t10_alua_tg_pt_gp_member usage,
and converts current users to direct se_lun pointer dereference.
This includes the removal of core_export_port(), core_release_port()
core_dev_export() and core_dev_unexport(). Along with conversion
of special case se_lun pointer dereference within PR ALL_TG_PT=1
and ALUA access state transition UNIT_ATTENTION handling.
Also, update core_enable_device_list_for_node() to reference the
new per se_lun->lun_deve_list when creating a new entry, or
replacing an existing one via RCU.

This patch converts se_node_acl->device_list[] table for mappedluns
to modern RCU hlist_head usage in order to support an arbitrary number
of node_acl lun mappings.
It converts transport_lookup_*_lun() fast-path code to use RCU read path
primitives when looking up se_dev_entry. It adds a new hlist_head at
se_node_acl->lun_entry_hlist for this purpose.
For transport_lookup_cmd_lun() code, it works with existing per-cpu
se_lun->lun_ref when associating se_cmd with se_lun + se_device.
Also, go ahead and update core_create_device_list_for_node() +
core_free_device_list_for_node() to use ->lun_entry_hlist.
It also converts se_dev_entry->pr_ref_count access to use modern
struct kref counting, and updates core_disable_device_list_for_node()
to kref_put() and block on se_deve->pr_comp waiting for outstanding PR
special-case PR references to drop, then invoke kfree_rcu() to wait
for the RCU grace period to complete before releasing memory.
So now that se_node_acl->lun_entry_hlist fast path access uses RCU
protected pointers, go ahead and convert remaining non-fast path
RCU updater code using ->lun_entry_lock to struct mutex to allow
callers to block while walking se_node_acl->lun_entry_hlist.
Finally drop the left-over core_clear_initiator_node_from_tpg() that
originally cleared lun_access during se_node_acl shutdown, as post
RCU conversion it now becomes duplicated logic.

Drivers may override the WCE flag, in which case the DPOFUA flag in
MODE SENSE might differ from the check used to reject invalid FUA
bits in sbc_check_dpofua. Also now that we reject invalid FUA
bits early there is no need to duplicate the same buggy check
down in the fileio code.
As the DPOFUA flag controls th support for FUA bits on read and
write commands as well as DPO key off all the checks off a single
helper, and deprecate the emulate_dpo and emulate_fua_read attributs.
This fixes various failures in the libiscsi testsuite.
Personally I'd prefer to also remove the emulate_fua_write attribute
as there is no good reason to disable it, but I'll leave that for
a separate discussion.
