The HID descriptors are defined at the function level in DisCo and as such it makes more sense to parse and store them at that level in the SDCA code. 2026-08-06ASoC: SDCA: Move HID registration to IRQ timeCharles Keepax2-6/+2
Currently, the SDCA code registers the HID device whilst parsing the DisCo information. This necessitates storing the HID device in the DisCo structs, which are intended to only store the parsed DisCo. Having the HID device registered so early in the process also causes some issues with cleaning up. Update the code to register the HID device as the IRQs are handled, this alleviates the previous concerns and brings the support inline with the other SDCA event handling. As part of this move the naming for the SDCA HID is also updated, it saves some complexity around the passing of the SoundWire device to include this in this patch. Update to using the dev_name for the phys, which is more consistent with other HID users, and use the actual function name/address for the HID name itself. 2026-08-06module: Remove unnecessary module::argsPetr Pavlu1-4/+0
Historically, various parameter-handling code kept pointers into module::args, most notably the charp support. However, in 2009, commit e180a6b7759a ("param: fix charp parameters set via sysfs") changed charp parameters to kstrdup() the input string as well. As a result, module::args now mostly wastes memory. On x86 CONFIG_XEN_PVHVM is now a synonym of CONFIG_XEN. In Xen specific x86 code it can be just dropped, in non-Xen specific x86 code it can be replaced with CONFIG_XEN. 2026-08-05Input: reject inhibit and uninhibit requests on unregistering devicesDmitry Torokhov1-1/+2
When an input device is being unregistered via input_unregister_device(), input_disconnect_device() sets dev->going_away = true under dev->mutex and releases the mutex. If a concurrent sysfs write to the inhibited attribute executes input_inhibit_device() or input_uninhibit_device(), it acquires dev->mutex. Because neither function checks dev->going_away (unlike input_open_device()), input_uninhibit_device() proceeds to call dev->open() and start polling on a device that is in the middle of being unregistered and torn down. Fix this by checking dev->going_away in input_inhibit_device() and input_uninhibit_device() under dev->mutex and returning -ENODEV if the device is going away. 2026-08-05Input: defer handler's start() until device is openedDmitry Torokhov1-2/+3
When registering an input handle, handler->start() is currently called immediately. However, the input device might not be fully opened or ready to process events at this stage, meaning any state synchronization events (like setting LED states) injected by the handler's start method might be dropped. Move the handler->start() invocation to input_open_device(). If it is the first handle opening the device, start() is called after the driver's open() method has successfully completed and the device is fully prepared. To facilitate this, factor out the device startup logic (calling driver's open and starting polling) into input_start_device(). For passive observer handlers, their start() method is also deferred until the handle is opened. Since opening a passive observer handle does not start the underlying hardware device, their start() method is called immediately upon opening, regardless of whether the device is active. 2026-08-05Input: ensure device is ready before delivering eventsDmitry Torokhov1-4/+8
When a device is opened via input_open_device(), the driver's open() callback is invoked. Some drivers, like cm109, submit URBs or perform other hardware initialization in their open() callbacks. However, the input core does not prevent dev->event() from being called concurrently during the driver's open() execution. For instance, if a console beep occurs, the kbd handler might inject an EV_SND event. This can lead to double list_add BUGs if the driver submits the same URB in both open() and event() paths without adequate synchronization. To fix this, introduce a ready flag in the input_dev structure. For complex devices (where dev->open is defined), this flag is set to true only after the driver's open() method successfully completes. The core now checks ready in input_event_dispose() and input_dev_toggle() to prevent events from reaching the hardware before it is fully prepared. For simple devices (no open callback), events are delivered immediately. We also replay the logical state in input_open_device() by calling input_dev_toggle() right after marking the device ready, ensuring no events are permanently lost. In the inhibit path, we ensure that physical feedback (LEDs/sounds) is turned off before the device is closed, and we synchronize the inhibited state transition under the event lock to prevent races with incoming events. 2026-08-05tracing: Make per-template BTF id lists file-localMykyta Yatsenko1-4/+3
DECLARE_EVENT_CLASS emitted __bpf_trace_btf_ids_<call> through BTF_ID_LIST_GLOBAL, i.e. a global symbol named after the event class. The class name is not unique across the kernel, so the symbol multiply-defines whenever two translation units instantiate the same class. Switch to the file-local BTF_ID_LIST: the list is reached only through the event_class_<call>.btf_ids pointer, initialised in the same unit, so tracefs readers never reference the symbol by name and resolve_btfids still fills the now-local .BTF_ids entries. The handcrafted syscall classes are the one cross-unit consumer: give them their own local BTF_ID_LIST rather than importing the generated sys_{enter,exit} lists. 2026-08-05net/mlx5: allocate doorbells from dma poolsNimrod Oren1-4/+1
Allocate doorbells from dma pools instead of the pgdir allocator. Doorbell records remain cache-line sized coherent DMA allocations, but their sub-allocation is now handled by the common mlx5 DMA pool infrastructure. This also makes doorbell allocation honor the requested NUMA node when reusing existing backing pages. The old pgdir allocator used the requested node only when allocating a new pgdir page; later allocations scanned one global pgdir list and could take any pgdir with a free entry, even if that page had been allocated for a different NUMA node. Selecting the per-node DMA pool before sub-allocation keeps reused doorbell records on pages allocated for the requested node. 2026-08-05pds_core: add host backed memory support for firmwareNikhil P. Rao1-0/+64
Some newer AMD/Pensando cards have minimal memory and there are cases where components, specifically in the control plane, need more memory. This series adds support for host backed DMA memory that can be used by the firmware for the previously mentioned cases. Host memory allocation is best-effort: if some allocations fail, the driver continues with whatever succeeded. Firmware gracefully degrades when less memory is available than requested. 2026-08-05dibs: initialise dibs->lock in dibs_dev_alloc()Hidayath Khan1-1/+1
dibs->lock is initialised by dibs_dev_add(), but a dibs device can already take interrupts before that call: ism_probe() runs ism_dev_init(), and hence request_irq(), before it calls dibs_dev_add(). No client can have registered a dmb at that point, so no dmb interrupt can occur, but a GID event interrupt can, and ism_handle_irq() takes dibs->lock unconditionally on entry, before it inspects anything else. Initialise the lock in dibs_dev_alloc() instead, so that it is valid as soon as a driver can publish the device to its interrupt handler. Tighten the CPER protocol error kfifo registration API and symbol visibility. Use EXPORT_SYMBOL_FOR_MODULES() instead of EXPORT_SYMBOL_NS_GPL() for the CPER kfifo registration symbols. This names the consuming module explicitly and gives compile-time enforcement. Drop the work_struct argument from the unregister path. Change the WARN_ONCE condition to a NULL check since there is no caller pointer to compare against anymore. Return void from the registration helpers whose result callers ignore. cxl_cper_register_work() keeps its int return as the only one consumed by a caller. Flag double registration with WARN_ONCE() inside the lock instead of returning an error. Change cxl_ras_init() to void because there is one consumer and one producer so the error return was unnecessary. Remove the now-dead error check in cxl_core_init(). 2026-08-05kcov: fix data corruption and race conditions on PREEMPT_RTTetsuo Handa1-0/+8
syzbot is reporting KCOV state corruption on PREEMPT_RT kernels, for the temporary storage used for saving/restoring remote KCOV state is currently allocated as the per-CPU area. On PREEMPT_RT kernels, softirq handlers run as preemptible task threads (e.g., ksoftirqd). If a softirq context preempts a task running a remote KCOV session, it safely saves the task's state into the per-CPU area. However, if that softirq thread is subsequently preempted by a higher- priority softirq thread on the same CPU, the second softirq will overwrite the same per-CPU area, permanently destroying the original task's KCOV state. Fix this data corruption by moving the temporary storage from the per-CPU area to the per-thread area. Since each softirq thread now owns its own task context, nested softirq preemption no longer causes data overwrites. Note that while the temporary storage is now on a per-thread basis, the per-CPU kcov_percpu_data.lock must be retained, for we need to ensure that kcov_remote_start() and kcov_remote_stop() operate atomically without racing against asynchronous interrupts that manipulate the current task's KCOV state. It is likely that GFP_KERNEL allocation by vmalloc_node() in kcov_init() has already called panic() before returning NULL, for there will be no OOM-killable userspace processes when __init function of built-in module runs. But this patch also fixes crashing the kernel when vmalloc_node() in kcov_init() returned NULL, for kcov_init() left per-CPU irq_area == NULL but kcov_remote_start() depends on per-CPU irq_area != NULL, resulting in (1) doing vmalloc() in kcov_remote_start() despite !in_task() context (2) out-of-array-bounds access if (1) succeeded but kcov->remote_size < CONFIG_KCOV_IRQ_AREA_SIZE (3) always leak memory allocated by (1), eventually killing all OOM-killable userspace processes problems. Make do_proc_vec static and parametrize by proc_vec_type enum which defines the type being processed and selects which converter is "live". Signed-ness and size are calculated based on proc_vec_type and table->data is now walked as raw bytes and advanced by the element size; the converter still performs the actual typed load/store. Pass converter as a union to avoid a cast from void*. The public proc_do{int,uint,ulong}vec_conv() prototypes and all converter signatures in kernel/, fs/ and the header are therefore unchanged. Remove do_proc_doulongvec_minmax. proc_doulongvec_minmax_conv uses a converter callback passed by the caller instead of conversions based on conv{mul,div}. Create uni and bi-direction converters for milliseconds to jiffies in proc_doulongvec_ms_jiffies_minmax; which is the only user of proc_doulongvec_minmax_conv. Replace do_proc_douintvec{,_w,_r} functions with a call to do_proc_vec. Disallow vectors for uint by returning -EINVAL when more than one element is detected. cpc_write() serializes every SystemMemory write with the per-CPU rmw_lock. The lock is required for read-modify-write fields and for registers whose access units overlap, but not for a full-width register in a standalone access unit. The _CPC layout is immutable after it has been parsed. Classify each SystemMemory register at probe time and retain locking for partial fields, invalid access widths, and overlapping access units. Allow standalone full-width registers to bypass the descriptor lookup and spinlock. Store the classification in existing structure padding so that struct cpc_register_resource does not grow. These three tables have entries which are out of order, so the binary search does not find part of them. For those registers regcache_reg_needs_sync() cannot compare the cached value against the default and reports that a sync is needed, so they are written to the device on every regcache_sync() even when they were never touched. The patches only reorder the existing entries, the text of every entry is kept verbatim and no default value is changed. Each table was verified by evaluating the register addresses and replaying lib/bsearch.c on them. Entries not reachable by the binary search, per table: cs35l41_reg 2 (of 47) cs35l45_defaults 36 (of 73) cs4265_reg_defaults 3 (of 16) For cs35l45 this is nearly half of the table: the DSP1_RX*_RATE and DSP1_TX*_RATE registers sit in the middle of it while their addresses are far above everything else, which cuts the search off from the whole 0x4c40 - 0xf010 range. Found by an audit of all reg_defaults tables under sound/, the SoundWire codec drivers are fixed by a separate series. Its types are reflected in sound/soc/intel/avs/messages.h and are not intended for public use. Closest public equivalent would be the firmware's processing modules but in such case a user has to compile against Intel's AudioDSP headers, not Linux ones. 2026-08-05drm/ttm: Split cgroup charge and resource allocationNatalie Vock1-1/+5
Coupling resource allocation and cgroup charging is racy when charging succeeds, but subsequent resource allocation fails. Certain eviction decisions are made on the basis of whether the allocating cgroup is protected, i.e. within its min/low limits, but with the charge being tied to resource allocation (and uncharged when the resource allocation fails), this check is done at a point where the allocation is not actually charged to the cgroup. This is subtly wrong if the allocation were to cause the cgroup to exceed the min/low protection, but it's even more wrong if the same cgroup tries allocating multiple buffers concurrently: In this case, the min/low protection may pass for all allocation attempts when the real min/low protection covers only some, or potentially none of the allocated buffers. Instead, charge the allocation to the cgroup once and keep the charge for as long as we try to allocate a ttm_resource, and only undo the charge if allocating the resource is ultimately unsuccessful and we move on to a different ttm_place. The fixed-size components field in SNDRV_CTL_IOCTL_CARD_INFO can be too small on systems with many audio devices. Keep the existing struct snd_ctl_card_info ABI intact and add a new ioctl SNDRV_CTL_IOCTL_CARD_BYTES that carries a variable-length payload selected by a type discriminator. The first defined type SND_CTL_CARD_BTYPE_COMPONENTS returns the full components string. The ioctl is designed to be reused for other variable-length card payloads in the future. The user-space caller may set data_allocated == 0 (or data == NULL) to query the required length; otherwise the kernel copies the payload into the user buffer and writes back the actual length in data_len. When the legacy components field in struct snd_ctl_card_info is truncated, '>' is written just before the NUL terminator to signal to user-space that the full string is available via the new ioctl. card->components is now dynamically allocated and grown in 32 byte increments via krealloc(), capped at 512 bytes.
