2024-01-29ALSA: firewire-motu: add support for MOTU 896 mk3 FireWire and HybridTakashi Sakamoto1-0/+2
Mark of the Unicorn released 896 mk3 FireWire in 2008 as part of the third generation of its FireWire series. In 2011, 896 mk3 hybrid was released to support USB protocol. It supports sampling transfer frequency up to 192.0 kHz. The packet format differs depending on both of current sampling transfer frequency and the type of signal in optical interfaces. The model supports transmission of PCM frames as well as MIDI messages. The 896 mk3 FireWire consists of below ICs: * Texas Instruments TSB41AB2 * Xilinx Spartan-3A FPGA, XC3S500E * Texas Instruments TMS320C6722 * Microchip (Atmel) AT91SAM SAM7S256 It supports sampling transfer frequency up to 192.0 kHz. The packet format differs depending on both of current sampling transfer frequency and the type of signal in two pairs of optical interfaces. The model supports transmission of PCM frames, while has no port for MIDi messages. The model supports command mechanism to configure internal DSP. Hardware meter information is available in the first 2 chunks of each data block of tx packet. This commit adds support for it. 2021-06-20ALSA: bebob: add support for ToneWeal FW66Takashi Sakamoto1-0/+1
A user of FFADO project reported the issue of ToneWeal FW66. As a result, the device is identified as one of applications of BeBoB solution. I note that in the report the device returns contradictory result in plug discovery process for audio subunit. Fortunately ALSA BeBoB driver doesn't perform it thus it's likely to handle the device without issues. This model consists of three chips: * Texas Instruments TSB41AB2 (Physical layer for IEEE 1394 bus) * Philips Semiconductors PDI 1394L21BE (Link layer for IEEE 1394 bus and packet processing layer) * QuickLogic QuickRAM QL4016 (Data block processing layer and digital signal processing) This commit adds a support for the model, with its unique protocol as version 1. The features of this protocol are: * no MIDI support. * Rx packets have no data chunks for control and status messages. * Tx packets have 2 bytes for control and status messages in the end of each data block. * The most of settings are represented in bit flag in one quadlet address (0x'ffff'f000'0b14). * It's selectable to use signal on optical interface, however the device has no register specific to it. The state has effect just to whether to exclude differed data chunks. * The internal multiplexer is not configured by software. Just after powering on, the device has a quirk to fail handling transaction. The chunks consist of data block counter (4 byte) and message (2 byte). * All of settings are represented in bit flag in one quadlet address (0x'ffff'f000'0b00). * When optical interface is configured as S/PDIF, signals of the interface is multiplexed for packets, instead of signals of coaxial interface. * The internal multiplexer is not configured by software. I note that the device has a quirk to mute output voluntarily during receiving batch of packets in the beginning of packet streaming. The operation to unmute should be done by software enough after the device shifts the state, however it's not deterministic. Furthermore, just after switching rate of sampling clock, the device keeps the state longer. This patch manages to sleep 100 msec before unmute operation, but it may fail to release the mute in the case that the rate is changed. This reverts commit 0edabdfe89581669609eaac5f6a8d0ae6fe95e7f. I've explained that optional FireWire card for d.2 is also built-in to d.2 Pro, however it's wrong. The optional card uses DM1000 ASIC and has 'Mackie DJ Mixer' in its model name of configuration ROM. On the other hand, built-in FireWire card for d.2 Pro and d.4 Pro uses OXFW971 ASIC and has 'd.Pro' in its model name according to manuals and user experiences. The former card is not the card for d.2 Pro. They are similar in appearance but different internally. 2021-05-14ALSA: bebob/oxfw: fix Kconfig entry for Mackie d.2 ProTakashi Sakamoto1-2/+2
Mackie d.2 has an extension card for IEEE 1394 communication, which uses BridgeCo DM1000 ASIC. On the other hand, Mackie d.4 Pro has built-in function for IEEE 1394 communication by Oxford Semiconductor OXFW971, according to schematic diagram available in Mackie website. Although I misunderstood that Mackie d.2 Pro would be also a model with OXFW971, it's wrong. Mackie d.2 Pro is a model which includes the extension card as factory settings. This commit fixes entries in Kconfig and comment in ALSA OXFW driver. 2020-05-10ALSA: fireface: add support for RME Fireface UFX (untested)Takashi Sakamoto1-0/+1
Fireface UFX was shipped by RME GmbH in 2010, and now discontinued. Although this model has some enhanced feature which Fireface 802 doesn't have (e.g. on-board USB mass storage device class, configuration interface with color display), the functionality relevant to packet communication on IEEE 1394 bus seems to be the same as Fireface 802 (e.g. available number of channels for PCM frame in each sampling transfer frequency). With the assumption, this commit adds support for Fireface UFX. In ALSA fireface driver, these two models are handled as the same one. Fireface 802 was shipped by RME GmbH in 2014. This model supports later protocol for management of isochronous communication and synchronization of sampling transmission frequency. This model consists of below ICs: * TI TSB41AB2 * Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA XC6SLX16 * TI TMS320 C6747 * SMSC USB3250 Especially, this model just supports IEEE 1394a, against its name which evokes Fireface 800. This commit adds support for Fireface 802 (tested). Userspace applications can transfer PCM frames and MIDI messages via ALSA PCM/Rawmidi interface. I note that 4 channels for ADAt1 and ADAT2 are disabled at higher sampling transfer frequency since isochronous resources reservation fails due to bandwidth limitation of IEEE 1394a. The value read from LATTER_SYNC_STATUS register is slightly different from the one of Fireface UCX. The higher 4 bits and lower 4 bits are swapped within the same byte. Without any assist of userspace application, transmitted MIDI messages from the device are not going to be processed. Fireface UFX was shipped by RME GmbH in 2012. This model supports later protocol for management of isochronous communication and synchronization of sampling transmission frequency. This commit adds support for the model. At present, it's not clear how to encode MIDI messages and decide destination address for asynchronous transaction, thus this commit adds support for isochronous communication for PCM frames only. Fireface 800 is a flagship model of RME GmbH for audio and music units on IEEE 1394 bus, shipped 2004. This model consists of four chips: - TI TSB81BA3D for physical layer on cable environment of EEE 1394 bus - TI TSB82AA2 for link layer for 1394 OHCI bus bridge to PCI bus - Xilinx Spartan-3 FPGA XC3S400 - Xilinx High-Performance CPLD XC9572XL This commit adds support Fireface 800. In this time, the support is restricted to its MIDI functionality, thus this commit adds some condition statements to avoid touching streaming functionality. Unlike Fireface 400, Fireface 800 has no functionality to suppress asynchronous transactions for MIDI messages except for unregister of listen address in controller side, thus the feature is available as is. MOTU 828mk3 (FireWire/Hybrid) is one of third generation in MOTU FireWire series, produced in 2008/2014. This model consists of three chips for functionality on IEEE 1394 bus: * TI TSB41AB2 (Physical layer for IEEE 1394 bus) * Xilinx Spartan-3E FPGA Family (Link layer for IEEE 1394 bus, packet processing and data block processing layer) * TI TMS320C6722 (Digital signal processing) This commit adds a support for this model, with its unique protocol as version 3. This protocol has some additional features to protocol version 2. * Support several optical interfaces. * Support a data chunk for return of reverb effect. * Have a quirk of tx packets. * Support heartbeat asynchronous transaction. In this protocol, series of transferred packets has some quirks. Modes of optical interfaces are configured by write transactions to 0x'ffff'f000'0c94. Drivers can register its address to receive heatbeat transactions from the unit. 0x'ffff'f000'0b0c is for the higher part and 0x'ffff'f000'0b10 is for the lower part. Nevertheless, this feature is not useless for this driver and this commit omits it. Each data block consists of two parts in a point of the number of included data chunks. In both of 'fixed' and 'differed' parts, the number of included data blocks are a multiple of 4, thus depending on models there's some empty data chunks. For example, 828mk3 includes one pair of empty data chunks in its fixed part. When optical interface is configured to S/PDIF, 828mk3 includes one pair of empty data chunks in its differed part. To reduce consumption of CPU cycles with additional conditions/loops, this commit just exposes these empty chunks to user space as PCM channels. Additionally, 828mk3 has a non-negligible overhead to change its sampling transfer frequency. When softwares send asynchronous transaction to perform it, LED on the unit starts to blink. In a worst case, it continues blink during several seconds; e.g. 10 seconds. When stopping blinking, the unit seems to be prepared for the requested sampling transfer frequency. To wait for the preparation, this commit forces the driver to call task scheduler and applications sleeps for 4 seconds. As of kernel 4.10, ALSA OXFW driver has no entry for Onyx 1640i produced by Mackie (Loud Technologies). This commit supplement it. I note that there're two models produced by Mackie (Loud Technologies), which have the same name 'Onyx 1640i'. The former model based on OXFW970, the latter model based on Dice. This is probably due to low quality of communication of OXFW series. Additionally, the tester reports his or her experiences to get unexpected result at higher sampling transmission frequency as 88.2/96.0 kHz. Now ALSA oxfw driver gains functionalities which scs1x module has. This commit obsoletes the scs1x module, and adds a line of MODULE_ALIAS to load oxfw module instead of scs1x module. In scs1x module, the name of 'shortname' field is fixed as 'SCS1x'. This field is used to name MIDI ports for both of SCS.1m and SCS.1d. This is not good because typically some SCS.1m and SCS.1d are used in the same system. It's better to distinguish them according to name of the ports. This commit applies model name in config ROM to the 'shortname'. For the name of 'driver' and 'longname', this commit uses the same way applied to the other models. This change may not bring disadvantages to users because userspace applications use ALSA rawmidi or seq interface and these interfaces are not influenced by them directly. You can see a part of his research in FFADO project. http://subversion.ffado.org/wiki/Tascam A part of my work are based on Ilya's investigation, while this series doesn't support the FW-1804, because of a lack of config ROM information and its protocol detail, especially for PCM channels. I observed that FW-1884 and FW-1082 don't work properly with 1394 OHCI controller based on VT6315. The controller can actually communicate packets to these models, while these models generate no sounds. It may be due to the PHY/LINK layer issues. Using 1394 OHCI controller produced by the other vendors such as Texas Instruments may work. Or adding another node on the bus. This commit allows this driver to support some models which M-Audio produces with DM1000 but its firmware is special. They are: - Firewire 1814 - ProjectMix I/O They have heavily customized firmware. The usual operations can't be applied to them. For this reason, this commit adds a model specific member to 'struct snd_bebob' and some model specific functions. Some parameters are write-only so this commit also adds control interface for applications to set them. M-Audio special firmware quirks: - Just after powering on, they wait to download firmware. This state is changed when receiving cue. Then bus reset is generated and the device is recognized as a different model with the uploaded firmware. - They don't respond against BridgeCo AV/C extension commands. So drivers can't get their stream formations and so on. - They do not start to transmit packets only by establishing connection but also by receiving SIGNAL FORMAT command. - After booting up, they often fail to send response against driver's request due to mismatch of gap_count. This module don't support to upload firmware. This means that these products were released before BeBoB was officially produced, and later BeBoB specification was formed. So these models have some quirks. This commit adds some codes for these quirks but don't support to upload firmware. This commit also adds specific operations to get metering information. The metering information also includes status of clock synchronization if the model supports to switch source of clock. The specification of FirewireLightBridge is unknown.
