2020-05-28powerpc: Remove Xilinx PPC405/PPC440 supportMichal Simek1-75/+0
The latest Xilinx design tools called ISE and EDK has been released in October 2013. New tool doesn't support any PPC405/PPC440 new designs. These platforms are no longer supported and tested. PowerPC 405/440 port is orphan from 2013 by commit cdeb89943bfc ("MAINTAINERS: Fix incorrect status tag") and commit 19624236cce1 ("MAINTAINERS: Update Grant's email address and maintainership") that's why it is time to remove the support fot these platforms. Pull sysctl system call removal from Eric Biederman: "As far as I can tell we have reached the point where no one enables the sysctl system call anymore. It still is enabled in a few defconfigs but they are mostly the rarely used one and in asking people about that it was more cut & paste enabled than anything else. This is single commit that just deletes code. Leaving just enough code so that the deprecated sysctl warning continues to be printed. If my analysis turns out to be wrong and someone actually cares it will be easy to revert this commit and have the system call again. There was one new xtensa defconfig in linux-next that enabled the system call this cycle and when asked about it the maintainer of the code replied that it was not enabled on purpose. As of today's linux-next tree that defconfig no longer enables the system call. This system call has been deprecated almost since it was introduced, and in a survey of the linux distributions I can no longer find any of them that enable CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL. The only indication that I can find that anyone might care is that a few of the defconfigs in the kernel enable CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL. However this appears in only 31 of 414 defconfigs in the kernel, so I suspect this symbols presence is simply because it is harmless to include rather than because it is necessary. As there appear to be no users of the sysctl system call, remove the code. As this removes one of the few uses of the internal kernel mount of proc I hope this allows for even more simplifications of the proc filesystem. Remove the CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER_PATH because: 1. It is disabled since commit 1be01d4a5714 ("driver: base: Disable CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER by default") as its dependency (UEVENT_HELPER) was made default to 'n', 2. It is not recommended (help message: "This should not be used today [...] creates a high system load") and was kept only for ancient userland, 3. Certain userland specifically requests it to be disabled (systemd README: "Legacy hotplug slows down the system and confuses udev"). It looks like it's ~4 years since we updated some of these, so do a bulk update. Verified that the before and after generated configs are exactly the same. Which begs the question why update them? So I've had one of these for a while and it looks like the vendor never bothered submitting the support upstream. This adds it using ppc40x_simple and provides a device-tree. There are some changes to the boot wrapper because the way u-boot works on this thing, it seems to expect a multipart image with the kernel, initrd and dtb in it. The USB support is missing as it needs the yet unmerged driver for the DWC OTG part and the GPIOs may need further definition in the dts. It features a PowerPC 405 processor core built in a 65nm low-power CMOS process with a five-stage pipeline executing up to one instruction per cycle. The family has 128-kbytes of on-chip memory, a 128-bit local bus and on-chip DDR2 SDRAM controller with 16-bit interface. In commit 9aa3283595451ca093500ff0977b106e1f465586 (ehea/ibm*: Move the IBM drivers) the IBM_NEW_EMAC* were renames to IBM_EMAC* The conversion was incomplete so that even if the driver was added to the .config it wasn't built, but there were no errors). In this commit we also update the various defconfigs that use EMAC to use the new Kconfig symbol, and explicitly add the NET_VENDOR_IBM guard. We do not explicitly select the Kconfig dependencies, as this would force EMAC on. Doing it in the defconfig allows more flexibility. Tested on a canyondlands board. 2011-01-20kconfig: rename CONFIG_EMBEDDED to CONFIG_EXPERTDavid Rientjes6-6/+6
The meaning of CONFIG_EMBEDDED has long since been obsoleted; the option is used to configure any non-standard kernel with a much larger scope than only small devices. This patch renames the option to CONFIG_EXPERT in init/Kconfig and fixes references to the option throughout the kernel. A new CONFIG_EMBEDDED option is added that automatically selects CONFIG_EXPERT when enabled and can be used in the future to isolate options that should only be considered for embedded systems (RISC architectures, SLOB, etc). Calling the option "EXPERT" more accurately represents its intention: only expert users who understand the impact of the configuration changes they are making should enable it. 2009-02-28powerpc/4xx: Enable SERIAL_OF support by default for Virtex platformsGrant Likely1-1/+1
Virtex FPGA designs have two serial port logic cores to choose from; the simple uartlite, and the full featured uart16550. Both cores are in common use so the defconfig should support both of them. Currently only console on uartlite is supported in the defconfig. This patch adds console support for the 16550 core. The Virtex reference designs do not work without this patch.
