2006-03-28ppc: Remove CHRP, POWER3 and POWER4 support from arch/ppcPaul Mackerras6-599/+0
32-bit CHRP machines are now supported only in arch/powerpc, as are all 64-bit PowerPC processors. This means that we don't use Open Firmware on any platform in arch/ppc any more. This makes PReP support a single-platform option like every other platform support option in arch/ppc now, thus CONFIG_PPC_MULTIPLATFORM is gone from arch/ppc. CONFIG_PPC_PREP is the option that selects PReP support and is generally what has replaced CONFIG_PPC_MULTIPLATFORM within arch/ppc. _machine is all but dead now, being #defined to 0. 2006-03-06kbuild: change kbuild to not rely on incorrect GNU make behaviorPaul Smith1-2/+5
The kbuild system takes advantage of an incorrect behavior in GNU make. Once this behavior is fixed, all files in the kernel rebuild every time, even if nothing has changed. This patch ensures kbuild works with both the incorrect and correct behaviors of GNU make. For more details on the incorrect behavior, see: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-make/2006-03/msg00003.html Changes in this patch: - Keep all targets that are to be marked .PHONY in a variable, PHONY. - Add .PHONY: $(PHONY) to mark them properly. - Remove any $(PHONY) files from the $? list when determining whether targets are up-to-date or not. 2006-01-15[PATCH] ppc: Remove powermac support from ARCH=ppcPaul Mackerras3-282/+9
This makes it possible to build kernels for PReP and/or CHRP with ARCH=ppc by removing the (non-building) powermac support. It's now also possible to select PReP and CHRP independently. Powermac users should now build with ARCH=powerpc instead of ARCH=ppc. (This does mean that it is no longer possible to build a 32-bit kernel for a G5.) 2005-11-10[PATCH] powerpc: Consolidate asm compatibility macrosDavid Gibson1-2/+1
This patch consolidates macros used to generate assembly for compatibility across different CPUs or configs. A new header, asm-powerpc/asm-compat.h contains the main compatibility macros. It uses some preprocessor magic to make the macros suitable both for use in .S files, and in inline asm in .c files. Headers (bitops.h, uaccess.h, atomic.h, bug.h) which had their own such compatibility macros are changed to use asm-compat.h. ppc_asm.h is now for use in .S files *only*, and a #error enforces that. As such, we're a lot more careless about namespace pollution here than in asm-compat.h. While we're at it, this patch adds a call to the PPC405_ERR77 macro in futex.h which should have had it already, but didn't. Built and booted on pSeries, Maple and iSeries (ARCH=powerpc). 2005-10-26powerpc: Fixes to get the Longtrail CHRP a bit furtherPaul Mackerras1-1/+1
Talk about buggy firmware... the OF on the Longtrail returns 0 from the claim client service rather than -1 when the claim fails. It also has no device_type on the /memory node and blows up if the output buffer for package-to-path is too big. This also fixes a bug with calling alloc_up with align == 0, where we did _ALIGN_UP(alloc_bottom, 0) which will end up as 0. Lastly, we now check the return value (in r3) from calling the prom, and return -1 from call_prom if we get a negative value back. 2005-10-23powerpc: Make coff boot wrapper load the kernel at 8MPaul Mackerras1-1/+1
Previously it claimed 7MB starting at the 9M point and loaded the kernel there. That meant that prom_init put the flattened device tree above 16M. On the 601 that caused the early device tree scan to fail, since only 16MB are mapped with BATs on the 601. 2005-06-21[PATCH] ppc32: Kill embedded system.map, use kallsymsBenjamin Herrenschmidt2-20/+1
This patch kills the whole embedded System.map mecanism and the bootloader-passed System.map that was used to provide symbol resolution in xmon. Instead, xmon now uses kallsyms like ppc64 does. No hurry getting that in Linus tree, let it be tested in -mm for a while first and make sure it doesn't break various embedded configs. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
