2011-02-25mac80211: make tx() operation return voidJohannes Berg1-1/+1
The return value of the tx operation is commonly misused by drivers, leading to errors. All drivers will drop frames if they fail to TX the frame, and they must also properly manage the queues (if they didn't, mac80211 would already warn). Removing the ability for drivers to return a BUSY value also allows significant cleanups of the TX TX handling code in mac80211. Note that this also fixes a bug in ath9k_htc, the old "return -1" there was wrong. 2010-05-07ar9170usb: remove deprecated aggregation codeChristian Lamparter1-50/+2
This patch removes the incomplete AMPDU implementation in ar9170usb. The code in question is: * too big and complex (more than 550 SLOC.) This is enough to qualify for a new separate code file! * unbalanced quantity & quality over-engineered areas like: * xmit scheduling and queuing frames for multiple HT peers * redundant frame sorting are confronted by gaping holes: * accurate transmission feedback * firmware error-handling and device reset * HT rate control algorithm * error-prone Since its inclusion, hardly anything was done to fix any of the outlined flaws from the initial commit message. => This also indicates poor maintainability. * relies heavily on several spinlocks. As a result of this shortcomings, the code is slow and does not even support the most basic 11n requirement: HT station mode. Therefore, I request to purge my heap of **** from the kernel: "ar9170: implement transmit aggregation". The next item on the agenda is: (re-)start from scratch with an adequate design to accommodate the special requirements and features of the available frameworks and tools. 2010-03-02ar9170: load firmware asynchronouslyJohannes Berg1-0/+1
This converts ar9170 to load firmware asynchronously out of ->probe() and only register with mac80211 when all firmware has been loaded successfully. If, on the other hand, any firmware fails to load, it will now unbind from the device. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: John W. 2010-02-08ar9170: remove get_tx_stats() mac80211 opKalle Valo1-1/+7
get_tx_stats() will be removed from mac80211. Because ar9170 uses ieee80211_tx_queue_stats internally, create a new identical struct ar9170_tx_queue_stats which the driver can use. Compile-tested only. Signed-off-by: Kalle Valo <kalle.valo@iki.fi> Tested-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@googlemail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-12-21ar9170: remove redundant frame flagsChristian Lamparter1-5/+0
The flags in question were once useful for debugging. Time has passed and now they do nothing more than duplicating txinfo->flags. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@googlemail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-12-21ar9170: improve network latencyChristian Lamparter1-0/+2
AR9170 has the bad habit of choking when traffic builds up. Tests have shown that this can partially be attributed to a huge buildup of backlogged frames. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@googlemail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-12-21ar9170: remove dead definitionsChristian Lamparter1-2/+0
This patch removes dead infrastructure which was meant for an out-of-tree rate control algorithm. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@googlemail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-10-27ar9170: atomic pending A-MPDU counterChristian Lamparter1-1/+1
A ref-counting bug emerged after testing ar9170usb's HT implementation on a bigger SMP/SMT system without the usual _debugging_ overhead. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@googlemail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>

2009-08-20ar9170: refactor configure_filterChristian Lamparter1-10/+4
Thanks to "mac80211: allow configure_filter callback to sleep", we no longer have to defer the work to the workqueue. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@web.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-08-20ath: move regulatory info into shared common structureLuis R. Rodriguez1-1/+1
This moves the shared regulatory structure into the common structure. We will use this ongoing for common data. Signed-off-by: Luis R. Rodriguez <lrodriguez@atheros.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-07-24ar9170: implement transmit aggregationChristian Lamparter1-0/+52
This patch roughly implements xmit aggregation for ar9170-like device. Not all AP are compatible with the driver(and firmware) yet, so YMMV. A more refined code will definitely need the final HT specification to be available for the public, lots of firmware modification and possibly a redesigned driver just for good measure. Sadly, these conditions won't come true anytime soon... Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@web.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-06-10ar9170: xmit code revampChristian Lamparter1-10/+24
This patch is a back-port from aggregation testing code. In the past, we didn't limit the amount of active tx urbs. However, ar9170 only has a limited buffer reserved for pending data frames. This wasn't much of a problem with the slower 802.11b/g. We simply stopped the full queue and moved on to something different in the mean time. But - as you guessed it - this simple approach stands in way for a decent aggregation implementation. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@web.de> Signed-off-by: John W. 2009-06-04ar9170: remove deprecated codeChristian Lamparter1-1/+0
This patch removes code (deprecated by "cfg80211: add rfkill support" ) main.c: In function 'ar9170_op_config': main.c:1306: warning: '__IEEE80211_CONF_CHANGE_RADIO_ENABLED' is deprecated (declared at include/net/mac80211.h:551) and a useless device state. 2009-06-03ar9170usb: more minor fixesChristian Lamparter1-0/+1
This patch contains a few more mostly random fixes for the USB front-end. 1. handle irq command response, instead of printing it to the console. 2. remove fixed FIXME. (real fix: "ar9170usb: reset device on resume". ) 3. some more one-liner. - get rid of a useless "return;" - add a few branch prediction hints in hot-paths etc. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@web.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-06-03ar9170: fix LED power state handlingChristian Lamparter1-0/+1
This patch fixes a minor visual bug in the led code, which left the LED in the wrong power state when it was toggled in a _unexpected_ way (e.g: enabling the LED twice). Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@web.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-06-03ar9170: use bitop macros for tx filter flagsChristian Lamparter1-2/+2
This patch fixes a bug in configure_filter's (sub-)routines. We never really cleared the flags once we updated the hardware state, so we wasted our resources by applying already active settings. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@web.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-06-03ar9170: introduce functions for MAC programmingChristian Lamparter1-0/+3
This patch introduces 3 new function which are used to update the MAC state, whenever needed... e.g: after a band switch. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@web.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-04-22ar9170: rework rxstream codeChristian Lamparter1-0/+12
With this patch ar9170 is capable of receiving aggregated 802.11n frames and sniffing on most networks without having a "debug message overhead". (Includes phy initialization requested by Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> -- JWL) Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@web.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-04-22ar9170: support HT receive and channel configJohannes Berg1-0/+15
This patch adds support for configuring HT40 channels and receiving HT40 to ar9170. Receiving aggregation doesn't seem to work right now, so it's not enabled. Same goes for TX aggregation, but that probably needs even more work. With this, I can receive roughly 33 Mbits/sec. The HT capabilities are a little odd, I tried following otus here -- in particular having SGI_40 but not SGI_20 is a little weird but afaict that's what otus does. 2009-04-22cfg80211: clean up includesJohannes Berg1-1/+1
Trying to separate header files into net/wireless.h and net/cfg80211.h has been a source of confusion. Remove net/wireless.h (because there also is the linux/wireless.h) and subsume everything into net/cfg80211.h -- except the definitions for regulatory structures which get moved to a new header net/regulatory.h. The "new" net/cfg80211.h is now divided into sections. There are no real changes in this patch but code shuffling and some very minor documentation fixes. I have also, to make things reflect reality, put in a copyright line for Luis to net/regulatory.h since that is probably exclusively written by him but was formerly in a file that only had my copyright line.
