2023-10-13qed: replace uses of strncpyJustin Stitt1-4/+3
strncpy() is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings [1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string interfaces. This patch eliminates three uses of strncpy(): Firstly, `dest` is expected to be NUL-terminated which is evident by the manual setting of a NUL-byte at size - 1. For this use specifically, strscpy() is a viable replacement due to the fact that it guarantees NUL-termination on the destination buffer. The next two cases should simply be memcpy() as the size of the src string is always 3 and the destination string just wants the first 3 bytes changed. To be clear, there are no buffer overread bugs in the current code as the sizes and offsets are carefully managed such that buffers are NUL-terminated. However, with these changes, the code is now more robust and less ambiguous (and hopefully easier to read). 2023-01-04qed: allow sleep in qed_mcp_trace_dump()Caleb Sander1-8/+20
By default, qed_mcp_cmd_and_union() delays 10us at a time in a loop that can run 500K times, so calls to qed_mcp_nvm_rd_cmd() may block the current thread for over 5s. We observed thread scheduling delays over 700ms in production, with stacktraces pointing to this code as the culprit. qed_mcp_trace_dump() is called from ethtool, so sleeping is permitted. It already can sleep in qed_mcp_halt(), which calls qed_mcp_cmd(). Add a "can sleep" parameter to qed_find_nvram_image() and qed_nvram_read() so they can sleep during qed_mcp_trace_dump(). qed_mcp_trace_get_meta_info() and qed_mcp_trace_read_meta(), called only by qed_mcp_trace_dump(), allow these functions to sleep. I can't tell if the other caller (qed_grc_dump_mcp_hw_dump()) can sleep, so keep b_can_sleep set to false when it calls these functions. 2022-04-04qed: fix ethtool register dumpManish Chopra1-1/+1
To fix a coverity complain, commit d5ac07dfbd2b ("qed: Initialize debug string array") removed "sw-platform" (one of the common global parameters) from the dump as this was used in the dump with an uninitialized string, however it did not reduce the number of common global parameters which caused the incorrect (unable to parse) register dump this patch fixes it with reducing NUM_COMMON_GLOBAL_PARAMS bye one. The qed_hsi.h is a huge header file containing HSI (Hardware Software Interface) definitions of storm memory access, debug related, general and management firmware specific. 2021-10-04qed: Remove e4_ and _e4 from FW HSIShai Malin1-4/+4
The existing qed/qede/qedr/qedi/qedf code uses chip-specific naming in structures, functions, variables and defines in FW HSI (Hardware Software Interface). The new FW version introduced a generic naming convention in HSI in-which the same code will be used across different versions for simpler maintainability. It also eases in providing support for new features. With this patch every "_e4" or "e4_" prefix or suffix is not needed anymore and it will be removed. NVM config file address will be modified when the MBI image is upgraded. Driver would return stale config values if user reads the nvm-config (via ethtool -d) in this state. The fix is to re-populate nvm attribute info while reading the nvm config values/partition. 2020-07-07net: qed: fix buffer overflow on ethtool -dAlexander Lobakin1-1/+12
When generating debug dump, driver firstly collects all data in binary form, and then performs per-feature formatting to human-readable if it is supported. For ethtool -d, this is roughly incorrect for two reasons. First of all, drivers should always provide only original raw dumps to Ethtool without any changes. The second, and more critical, is that Ethtool's output buffer size is strictly determined by ethtool_ops::get_regs_len(), and all data *must* fit in it. The current version of driver always returns the size of raw data, but the size of the formatted buffer exceeds it in most cases. This leads to out-of-bound writes and memory corruption. Address both issues by adding an option to return original, non-formatted debug data, and using it for Ethtool case. v2: - Expand commit message to make it more clear; - No functional changes. 2020-07-06net: qed: sanitize BE/LE data processingAlexander Lobakin1-20/+29
Current code assumes that both host and device operates in Little Endian in lots of places. While this is true for x86 platform, this doesn't mean we should not care about this. This commit addresses all parts of the code that were pointed out by sparse checker. All operations with restricted (__be*/__le*) types are now protected with explicit from/to CPU conversions, even if they're noops on common setups. I'm sure there are more such places, but this implies a deeper code investigation, and is a subject for future works. The error DBG_STATUS_NO_MATCHING_FRAMING_MODE was added to the enum enum dbg_status however there is a missing corresponding entry for this in the array s_status_str. Add to debug dump more information on the platform it was collected from (pci func, path id). Provide human readable reg fifo erros. Removed static debug arrays from HSI Functions, and move them to the hwfn. Some structures were slightly changed (removing reserved chip id for example) which lead to many long initializations being modified with one parameter less during initialization. This leads to some long diffs that don't really change anything. Part of the FW drop includes new debug capabilities implemented in the qed_debug file. This patch dumps additional information during ethtool -d for better debugging. The data dumped is the ilt (internal logical table) and information gathered by the management firmware incase there was a crash and driver was not able to extract the information (mdump). This enables sharing between the llh entries between PFs and thus increasing the amount of filters per PF under certain configurations. The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The strscpy() was a recent fix (net: qed: use correct strncpy() size) to prevent passing the length of the source buffer to strncpy() and guarantee null termination. It misses the goal of overwriting only the first 3 characters in "???_BIG_RAM" and "???_RAM" while keeping the rest of the string. Use strncpy() with the length of 3, without null termination. This pushes qed [and as result, all qed* drivers] into using 8.20.0.0 firmware. The changes are mostly contained in qed with minor changes to qedi due to some HSI changes. Content-wise, the firmware contains fixes to various issues exposed since the release of the previous firmware, including: - Corrects iSCSI fast retransmit when data digest is enabled. - Stop draining packets when receiving several consecutive PFCs. - Prevent possible assertion when consecutively opening/closing many connections. - Prevent possible assertion due to too long BDQ fetch time. In addition, the new firmware would allow us to later add iWARP support in qed and qedr. This patch advances the qed* drivers into using the newer firmware - This solves several firmware bugs, mostly related [but not limited to] various init/deinit issues in various offloaded protocols.
