[WHY] The `dc_tiling_info` union previously did not have a field to specify the active GFX format, assuming only one format would be used per DCN version. from DCN4+, support for switching between different GFX formats is introduced, requiring a way to track which format is currently in use. 2024-12-18Revert "drm/amd/display: Fix green screen issue after suspend"Rodrigo Siqueira1-14/+8
This reverts commit 87b7ebc2e16c14d32a912f18206a4d6cc9abc3e8. A long time ago, we had an issue with the Raven system when it was connected to two displays: one with DP and another with HDMI. After the system woke up from suspension, we saw a solid green screen caused by an underflow generated by bad DCC metadata. To workaround this issue, the 'commit 87b7ebc2e16c ("drm/amd/display: Fix green screen issue after suspend")' was introduced to disable the DCC for a few frames after in the resume phase. However, in hindsight, this solution was probably a workaround at the kernel level for some issues from another part (probably other driver components or user space). After applying this patch and trying to reproduce the green issue in a similar hardware system but using the latest kernel and userspace, we cannot see the issue, which makes this workaround obsolete and creates extra unnecessary complexity to the code; for all of this reason, this commit reverts the original change. 2024-06-14drm/amd/display: Move PRIMARY plane zpos higherLeo Li1-5/+13
[Why] Compositors have different ways of assigning surfaces to DRM planes for render offloading. It may decide between various strategies: overlay, underlay, or a mix of both (see here for more info: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/emersion/libliftoff/-/issues/76) One way for compositors to implement the underlay strategy is to assign a higher zpos to the DRM_PRIMARY plane than the DRM_OVERLAY planes, effectively turning the DRM_OVERLAY plane into an underlay plane. Today, amdgpu attaches an immutable zpos of 0 to the DRM_PRIMARY plane. This however, is an arbitrary restriction. DCN pipes are general purpose, and can be arranged in any z-order. To support compositors using this allocation scheme, we can set a non-zero immutable zpos for the PRIMARY, allowing the placement of OVERLAYS (mutable zpos range 0-254) beneath the PRIMARY. [How] Assign a zpos = #no of OVERLAY planes to the PRIMARY plane. Then, clean up any assumptions in the driver of PRIMARY plane having the lowest zpos. v2: Fix typo s/decending/descending/ Reviewed-by: Harry Wentland <harry.wentland@amd.com> Acked-by: Zaeem Mohamed <zaeem.mohamed@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Leo Li <sunpeng.li@amd.com> Acked-by: Pekka Paalanen <pekka.paalanen@collabora.com> Tested-by: Daniel Wheeler <daniel.wheeler@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com>
2024-06-14drm/amd/display: Introduce overlay cursor modeLeo Li1-1/+12
[Why] DCN is the display hardware for amdgpu. DRM planes are backed by DCN hardware pipes, which carry pixel data from one end (memory), to the other (output encoder). Each DCN pipe has the ability to blend in a cursor early on in the pipeline. In other words, there are no dedicated cursor planes in DCN, which makes cursor behavior somewhat unintuitive for compositors. For example, if the cursor is in RGB format, but the top-most DRM plane is in YUV format, DCN will not be able to blend them. Because of this, amdgpu_dm rejects all configurations where a cursor needs to be enabled on top of a YUV formatted plane. From a compositor's perspective, when computing an allocation for hardware plane offloading, this cursor-on-yuv configuration result in an atomic test failure. Since the failure reason is not obvious at all, compositors will likely fall back to full rendering, which is not ideal. Instead, amdgpu_dm can try to accommodate the cursor-on-yuv configuration by opportunistically reserving a separate DCN pipe just for the cursor. We can refer to this as "overlay cursor mode". It is contrasted with "native cursor mode", where the native DCN per-pipe cursor is used. [How] On each crtc, compute whether the cursor plane should be enabled in overlay mode. If it is, mark the CRTC as requesting overlay cursor mode. Overlay cursor should be enabled whenever there exists a underlying plane that has YUV format, or is scaled differently than the cursor. It should also be enabled if there is no underlying plane, or if underlying planes do not cover the entire CRTC. During DC validation, attempt to enable a separate DCN pipe for the cursor if it's in overlay mode. If that fails, or if no overlay mode is requested, then fallback to native mode. v2: * Update commit message for when overlay cursor should be enabled * Also consider scale and no-underlying-plane case (cursor on crtc bg) * Consider all underlying planes when determinig overlay/native, not just the plane immediately beneath the cursor, as it may not cover the entire CRTC. * Fix typo s/decending/descending/ * Force native cursor on pre-DCN hardware Reviewed-by: Harry Wentland <harry.wentland@amd.com> Acked-by: Zaeem Mohamed <zaeem.mohamed@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Leo Li <sunpeng.li@amd.com> Acked-by: Harry Wentland <harry.wentland@amd.com> Acked-by: Pekka Paalanen <pekka.paalanen@collabora.com> Tested-by: Daniel Wheeler <daniel.wheeler@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com>

2024-04-30drm/amd/display: Do cursor programming with rest of pipeHarry Wentland1-2/+2
Cursors are always programmed independently of updates on other planes. When atomic commits program cursor and surface updates together the cursor update might be locked out by the surface update and not take effect. To combat this program cursor and surface updates together via dc_update_planes_and_stream to ensure they can be applied atomically. When cursor updates come on their own use the old method to program the cursor as dc_update_planes_and_stream isn't handling this case correctly (yet), leading to a flickering screen. 2024-04-30drm/amd/display: Separate setting and programming of cursorHarry Wentland1-3/+3
We're seeing issues when user-space tries to do an atomic update of the primary surface, as well as the cursor. These two updates are separate calls into DC and don't currently act as an atomic update. This might lead to cursor updates being locked out and cursors stuttering. In order to solve this problem we want to separate the setting and programming of cursor attributes and position. That's what we're doing in this patch. 2023-12-13drm/amd/display: add plane 3D LUT driver-specific propertiesMelissa Wen1-0/+24
Add 3D LUT property for plane color transformations using a 3D lookup table. 3D LUT allows for highly accurate and complex color transformations and is suitable to adjust the balance between color channels. It's also more complex to manage and require more computational resources. Since a 3D LUT has a limited number of entries in each dimension we want to use them in an optimal fashion. This means using the 3D LUT in a colorspace that is optimized for human vision, such as sRGB, PQ, or another non-linear space. Therefore, userpace may need one 1D LUT (shaper) before it to delinearize content and another 1D LUT after 3D LUT (blend) to linearize content again for blending. So if you want, 203 nits for SDR content, pass in (203.0 / 80.0). v4: - comment about the PQ TF need for L-to-NL (from Harry's review) Reviewed-by: Harry Wentland <harry.wentland@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Joshua Ashton <joshua@froggi.es> Co-developed-by: Melissa Wen <mwen@igalia.com> Signed-off-by: Melissa Wen <mwen@igalia.com> Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com>

2023-12-13drm/amd/display: add driver-specific property for plane degamma LUTMelissa Wen1-0/+85
Hook up driver-specific atomic operations for managing AMD color properties. Create AMD driver-specific color management properties and attach them according to HW capabilities defined by `struct dc_color_caps`. First add plane degamma LUT properties that means user-blob and its size. We will add more plane color properties in the next patches. In addition, we define AMD_PRIVATE_COLOR to guard these driver-specific plane properties. Plane degamma can be used to linearize input space for arithmetical operations that are more accurate when applied in linear color. v2: - update degamma LUT prop description - move private color operations from amdgpu_display to amdgpu_dm_color v5: - get degamma blob correctly (Joshua) Reviewed-by: Harry Wentland <harry.wentland@amd.com> Co-developed-by: Joshua Ashton <joshua@froggi.es> Signed-off-by: Joshua Ashton <joshua@froggi.es> Signed-off-by: Melissa Wen <mwen@igalia.com> Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com>

2023-09-26drm/amd/display: switch DC over to the new DRM logging macrosHamza Mahfooz1-5/+3
For multi-GPU systems it is difficult to tell which GPU a particular message is being printed for and that is undesirable because it complicates debugging efforts. Also, the new macros allow us to enable logging for particular parts of the codebase more selectively (since we no longer need to throw everything at DRM_DEBUG_KMS()). So, for the reasons outlined above we should switch to the new macros. We can accomplish this by using the existing DC_LOGGER code to pass around the relevant `struct drm_device` which will be fed to the new macros in logger_types.h. Also, we must get rid of all instances of the DC_LOG_.*() functions that are currently in amdgpu_dm since we don't use the DC logger there and we can simply refer to the macros directly there instead. 2023-09-06drm/amd/display: enable cursor degamma for DCN3+ DRM legacy gammaMelissa Wen1-0/+7
For DRM legacy gamma, AMD display manager applies implicit sRGB degamma using a pre-defined sRGB transfer function. It works fine for DCN2 family where degamma ROM and custom curves go to the same color block. But, on DCN3+, degamma is split into two blocks: degamma ROM for pre-defined TFs and `gamma correction` for user/custom curves and degamma ROM settings doesn't apply to cursor plane. To get DRM legacy gamma working as expected, enable cursor degamma ROM for implict sRGB degamma on HW with this configuration. This file was split in commit 5d945cbcd4b16a29d6470a80dfb19738f9a4319f ("drm/amd/display: Create a file dedicated to planes") and the logic in dm_plane_format_mod_supported() function got changed by a switch logic. That change broke drm_plane modifiers setting on series 5000 APUs (tested on OXP mini AMD 5800U and HP Dev One 5850U PRO) leading to Gamescope not working as reported on GitHub[1] To reproduce the issue, enter a TTY and run: $ gamescope -- vkcube With said commit applied it will abort.
