2025-04-03drm/dp_mst: Use drm_dp_dpcd_write_data() to write GUID for non-root MST branch devicesImre Deak1-10/+7
drm_dp_dpcd_write_data() can be used to write the GUID for a non-root MST branch device, similarly to writing the GUID to a root MST branch device, do so. 2025-04-03drm/dp_mst: Fix GUID DPCD write to non-root MST branch devicesImre Deak1-0/+2
The return value on success of drm_dp_send_dpcd_write() called for non-root MST branch devices from drm_dp_check_mstb_guid() is the number of bytes transferred. Atm this return value (in case of a complete read) will be regarded incorrectly as an error by the caller of drm_dp_check_mstb_guid(). Fix this by converting the return value for a complete read to the expected success code (0) and for a partial read to a failure code (-EPROTO). 2025-03-11drm/dp_mst: Fix locking when skipping CSN before topology probingImre Deak1-16/+24
The handling of the MST Connection Status Notify message is skipped if the probing of the topology is still pending. Acquiring the drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr::probe_lock for this in drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req() is problematic: the task/work this function is called from is also responsible for handling MST down-request replies (in drm_dp_mst_handle_down_rep()). Thus drm_dp_mst_link_probe_work() - holding already probe_lock - could be blocked waiting for an MST down-request reply while drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req() is waiting for probe_lock while processing a CSN message. This leads to the probe work's down-request message timing out. A scenario similar to the above leading to a down-request timeout is handling a CSN message in drm_dp_mst_handle_conn_stat(), holding the probe_lock and sending down-request messages while a second CSN message sent by the sink subsequently is handled by drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req(). Fix the above by moving the logic to skip the CSN handling to drm_dp_mst_process_up_req(). This function is called from a work (separate from the task/work handling new up/down messages), already holding probe_lock. This solves the above timeout issue, since handling of down-request replies won't be blocked by probe_lock. 2025-01-24drm/dp_mst: Fix drm RAD printWayne Lin1-4/+4
[Why] The RAD of sideband message printed today is incorrect. For RAD stored within MST branch - If MST branch LCT is 1, it's RAD array is untouched and remained as 0. - If MST branch LCT is larger than 1, use nibble to store the up facing port number in cascaded sequence as illustrated below: u8 RAD[0] = (LCT_2_UFP << 4) | LCT_3_UFP RAD[1] = (LCT_4_UFP << 4) | LCT_5_UFP ... In drm_dp_mst_rad_to_str(), it wrongly to use BIT_MASK(4) to fetch the port number of one nibble. 2025-01-07drm/mst: remove mgr parameter and debug logging from drm_dp_get_vc_payload_bw()Jani Nikula1-8/+2
The struct drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr *mgr parameter is only used for debug logging in case the passed in link rate or lane count are zero. There's no further error checking as such, and the function returns 0. There should be no case where the parameters are zero. The returned value is generally used as a divisor, and if we were hitting this, we'd be seeing division by zero. Just remove the debug logging altogether, along with the mgr parameter, so that the function can be used in non-MST contexts without the topology manager. v2: Also remove drm_dp_mst_helper_tests_init as unnecessary (Imre) Cc: Imre Deak <imre.deak@intel.com> Cc: Lyude Paul <lyude@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Imre Deak <imre.deak@intel.com> Acked-by: Maxime Ripard <mripard@kernel.org> Acked-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Jani Nikula <jani.nikula@intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/72d77e7a7fe69c784e9df048b7e6f250fd7599e4.1735912293.git.jani.nikula@intel.com
2024-12-17drm/dp_mst: Register connectors via drm_connector_dynamic_register()Imre Deak1-1/+1
MST connectors should be initialized/registered by calling drm_connector_dynamic_init()/drm_connector_dynamic_register(). The commit adding these functions explains the issue with the current drm_connector_init*()/drm_connector_register() interface for MST connectors. Based on the above adjust here the registration part and change the initialization part in follow-up commits for each driver. For now, drivers are allowed to keep using the drm_connector_init*() functions, by drm_connector_dynamic_register() checking for this (see drm_connector_add()). A commit later will change this to WARN in such cases. v2: Replaces references to a "patch" with "commit" in the commit log. 2024-12-05drm/dp_mst: Fix down request message timeout handlingImre Deak1-3/+9
If receiving a reply for an MST down request message times out, the thread receiving the reply in drm_dp_mst_handle_down_rep() could try to dereference the drm_dp_sideband_msg_tx txmsg request message after the thread waiting for the reply - calling drm_dp_mst_wait_tx_reply() - has timed out and freed txmsg, hence leading to a use-after-free in drm_dp_mst_handle_down_rep(). 2024-12-05drm/dp_mst: Verify request type in the corresponding down message replyImre Deak1-0/+31

Ensure this by checking if the request type code stored both in the request and the reply match, dropping the reply in case of a mismatch. 2024-12-05drm/dp_mst: Fix resetting msg rx state after topology removalImre Deak1-2/+19
If the MST topology is removed during the reception of an MST down reply or MST up request sideband message, the drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr::up_req_recv/down_rep_recv states could be reset from one thread via drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_set_mst(false), racing with the reading/parsing of the message from another thread via drm_dp_mst_handle_down_rep() or drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req(). The race is possible since the reader/parser doesn't hold any lock while accessing the reception state. This in turn can lead to a memory corruption in the reader/parser as described by commit bd2fccac61b4 ("drm/dp_mst: Fix MST sideband message body length check"). Fix the above by resetting the message reception state if needed before reading/parsing a message. Another solution would be to hold the drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr::lock for the whole duration of the message reception/parsing in drm_dp_mst_handle_down_rep() and drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req(), however this would require a bigger change. Since the fix is also needed for stable, opting for the simpler solution in this patch. 2024-11-26drm/dp_mst: Fix MST sideband message body length checkImre Deak1-0/+3
Fix the MST sideband message body length check, which must be at least 1 byte accounting for the message body CRC (aka message data CRC) at the end of the message. This fixes a case where an MST branch device returns a header with a correct header CRC (indicating a correctly received body length), with the body length being incorrectly set to 0. This will later lead to a memory corruption in drm_dp_sideband_append_payload() and the following errors in dmesg: UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in drivers/gpu/drm/display/drm_dp_mst_topology.c:786:25 index -1 is out of range for type 'u8 [48]' Call Trace: drm_dp_sideband_append_payload+0x33d/0x350 [drm_display_helper] drm_dp_get_one_sb_msg+0x3ce/0x5f0 [drm_display_helper] drm_dp_mst_hpd_irq_handle_event+0xc8/0x1580 [drm_display_helper] memcpy: detected field-spanning write (size 18446744073709551615) of single field "&msg->msg[msg->curlen]" at drivers/gpu/drm/display/drm_dp_mst_topology.c:791 (size 256) Call Trace: drm_dp_sideband_append_payload+0x324/0x350 [drm_display_helper] drm_dp_get_one_sb_msg+0x3ce/0x5f0 [drm_display_helper] drm_dp_mst_hpd_irq_handle_event+0xc8/0x1580 [drm_display_helper] Cc: <stable@vger.kernel.org> Cc: Lyude Paul <lyude@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Lyude Paul <lyude@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Imre Deak <imre.deak@intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20241125205314.1725887-1-imre.deak@intel.com

2024-09-12drm/dp_mst: Fix DSC decompression detection in Synaptics branch devicesImre Deak1-2/+8
Atm it's assumed that all Synaptics MST branch devices support DSC, which is not exposed via a DP-to-DP peer device, rather a control flag in the branch device's UFP DPCD applying to all the streams going through it. This isn't true for all adapters with this branch device though (for instance the Cakitte USBC->2xHDMI adapter reported in the Closes link below doesn't support DSC). Fix the above by advertising the DSC decompression support only if the capability flag for this in the UFP DPCD is actually set. 2024-07-31drm/dp_mst: Simplify the condition when to enumerate path resourcesImre Deak1-11/+8
In the if (old_ddps != port->ddps || !created) if (port->ddps && !port->input) ret = drm_dp_send_enum_path_resources(); sequence the first if's condition is true if the port exists already (!created) or the port was created anew (hence old_ddps==0) and it was in the plugged state (port->ddps==1). The second if's condition is true for output ports in the plugged state. So the function is called for an output port in the plugged state, regardless if it already existed or not and regardless of the old plugged state. In all other cases port->full_pbn can be zeroed as the port is either an input for which full_pbn is never set, or an output in the unplugged state for which full_pbn was already zeroed previously or the port was just created (with port->full_pbn==0). Simplify the condition, making it clear that the path resources are always enumerated for an output port in the plugged state. 2023-11-21drm/dp_mst: Fix PBN divider calculation for UHBR ratesImre Deak1-3/+7
The current way of calculating the pbn_div value, the link BW per each MTP slot, worked only for DP 1.4 link rates. Fix things up for UHBR rates calculating with the correct channel coding efficiency based on the link rate. v2: - Return the fractional pbn_div value from drm_dp_get_vc_payload_bw(). v3: - Fix rounding up quotient while calculating req_slots. 2023-11-21drm/dp_mst: Store the MST PBN divider value in fixed point formatImre Deak1-7/+15
On UHBR links the PBN divider is a fractional number, accordingly store it in fixed point format. For now drm_dp_get_vc_payload_bw() always returns a whole number and all callers will use only the integer part of it which should preserve the current behavior. The next patch will fix drm_dp_get_vc_payload_bw() for UHBR rates returning a fractional number for those (also accounting for the channel coding efficiency correctly). 2023-11-08drm/dp: Add helpers to calculate the link BW overheadImre Deak1-6/+17
Add helpers drivers can use to calculate the BW allocation overhead - due to SSC, FEC, DSC and data alignment on symbol cycles - and the channel coding efficiency - due to the 8b/10b, 128b/132b encoding. On 128b/132b links the FEC overhead is part of the coding efficiency, so not accounted for in the BW allocation overhead. The drivers can use these functions to calculate a ratio, controlling the stream symbol insertion rate of the source device in each SST TU or MST MTP frame. Drivers can calculate this m/n = (pixel_data_rate * drm_dp_bw_overhead()) / (link_data_rate * drm_dp_bw_channel_coding_efficiency()) ratio for a given link and pixel stream and with that the slots_per_mtp = CEIL(64 * m / n) allocated slots per MTP for the stream in a link frame and with that the pbn = slots_per_mtp * drm_mst_get_pbn_divider() allocated PBNs for the stream on the MST link path. Take drm_dp_bw_overhead() into use in drm_dp_calc_pbn_mode(), for drivers calculating the PBN value directly. v2: - Add dockbook description to drm_dp_bw_channel_coding_efficiency(). (LKP). - Clarify the way m/n ratio is calculated in the commit log. v3: - Fix compile breakage for !CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE. (LKP) - Account for FEC_PM overhead (+ 0.0015625 %), add comment with the formula to calculate the total FEC overhead. (Ville) v4: - Rename DRM_DP_OVERHEAD_SSC to DRM_DP_OVERHEAD_SSC_REF_CLK. (Ville) v5: - Clarify in the commit log what MTP means. - Simplify the commit log's formula to calculate PBN.
