2021-05-20x86/syscalls: Switch to generic syscalltbl.shMasahiro Yamada1-0/+1
Many architectures duplicate similar shell scripts. Convert x86 and UML to use scripts/syscalltbl.sh. The generic script generates seperate headers for x86/64 and x86/x32 syscalls, while the x86 specific script coalesced them into one. Adjust the code accordingly. So, mandatory-y works like a fallback default (by just wrapping asm-generic one) when arch does not have a specific header implementation. 2018-08-22module: use relative references for __ksymtab entriesArd Biesheuvel1-0/+1
An ordinary arm64 defconfig build has ~64 KB worth of __ksymtab entries, each consisting of two 64-bit fields containing absolute references, to the symbol itself and to a char array containing its name, respectively. When we build the same configuration with KASLR enabled, we end up with an additional ~192 KB of relocations in the .init section, i.e., one 24 byte entry for each absolute reference, which all need to be processed at boot time. Given how the struct kernel_symbol that describes each entry is completely local to module.c (except for the references emitted by EXPORT_SYMBOL() itself), we can easily modify it to contain two 32-bit relative references instead. This reduces the size of the __ksymtab section by 50% for all 64-bit architectures, and gets rid of the runtime relocations entirely for architectures implementing KASLR, either via standard PIE linking (arm64) or using custom host tools (x86). Note that the binary search involving __ksymtab contents relies on each section being sorted by symbol name. This is implemented based on the input section names, not the names in the ksymtab entries, so this patch does not interfere with that. Given that the use of place-relative relocations requires support both in the toolchain and in the module loader, we cannot enable this feature for all architectures. So make it dependent on whether CONFIG_HAVE_ARCH_PREL32_RELOCATIONS is defined. cputime_t is now only used by two architectures: * powerpc (when CONFIG_VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_NATIVE=y) * s390 And since the core doesn't use it anymore, we don't need any arch support from the others. So we can remove their stub implementations. A final cleanup would be to provide an efficient pure arch implementation of cputime_to_nsec() for s390 and powerpc and finally remove include/linux/cputime.h . 2016-11-28x86/build: Remove three unneeded genhdr-y entriesPaul Bolle1-4/+0
In x86's include/asm/Kbuild three entries are appended to the genhdr-y make variable: genhdr-y += unistd_32.h genhdr-y += unistd_64.h genhdr-y += unistd_x32.h The same entries are also appended to that variable in include/uapi/asm/Kbuild. So commit: 10b63956fce7 ("UAPI: Plumb the UAPI Kbuilds into the user header installation and checking") ... removed these three entries from include/asm/Kbuild. But, apparently, some merge conflict resolution re-added them. The net effect is, in short, that the genhdr-y make variable contains these file names twice and, as a consequence, that the corresponding headers get installed twice. And so the build prints: INSTALL usr/include/asm/ (65 files) ... while in reality only 62 files are installed in that directory. Nothing breaks because of all that, but it's a good idea to finally remove these unneeded entries nevertheless. 2016-07-07kbuild, x86: Track generated headers with generated-yJames Hogan1-0/+6
Track generated header files which aren't already in genhdr-y, alongside generic-y wrappers in the */include/generated/[uapi/]asm/ directories. Currently only x86 generates extra headers in these directories, for the purposes of enumerating system calls for different ABIs, and xen hypercalls. This will allow the asm-generic wrapper handling code to remove stale wrappers when files are removed from generic-y, without also removing these headers which are generated separately. Commit 2ae416b142b6 ("mm: new mm hook framework") introduced an empty header file (mm-arch-hooks.h) for every architecture, even those which doesn't need to define mm hooks. As suggested by Geert Uytterhoeven, this could be cleaned through the use of a generic header file included via each per architecture asm/include/Kbuild file. The PowerPC architecture is not impacted here since this architecture has to defined the arch_remap MM hook. 2011-11-17x86: Generate system call tables and unistd_*.h from tablesH. Peter Anvin1-2/+3
Generate system call tables and unistd_*.h automatically from the tables in arch/x86/syscalls. All other information, like NR_syscalls, is auto-generated, some of which is in asm-offsets_*.c. This allows us to keep all the system call information in one place, and allows for kernel space and user space to see different information; this is currently used for the ia32 system call numbers when building the 64-bit kernel, but will be used by the x32 ABI in the near future. This also removes some gratuitious differences between i386, x86-64 and ia32; in particular, now all system call tables are generated with the same mechanism. Cc: H. J. This patch rebase the implementation of the breakpoints API on top of perf events instances. Each breakpoints are now perf events that handle the register scheduling, thread/cpu attachment, etc.. Impact: - New perf ABI: the hardware breakpoints counters - Ptrace breakpoints setting remains tricky and still needs some per thread breakpoints references.
