Sometimes we need to analyze the data in process level but current sort
keys only work on thread level. Let's add 'tgid' sort key for that as
'pid' is already taken for thread.
This will look mostly the same, but it only uses tgid instead of tid.
Here's an example of a process with two threads (thloop).

This is a breakdown of perf_mem_data_src.mem_dtlb values. It assumes
PMU drivers would set PERF_MEM_TLB_HIT bit with an appropriate level.
And having PERF_MEM_TLB_MISS means that it failed to find one in any
levels of TLB. For now, it doesn't use PERF_MEM_TLB_{WK,OS} bits.
Also it seems Intel machines don't distinguish L1 or L2 precisely. So I
added ANY_HIT (printed as "L?-Hit") to handle the case.

This is a breakdown of perf_mem_data_src.mem_lvl_num. But it's also
divided into two parts because the combination is bigger than 8.
Since there are many entries for different cache levels, 'cache' field
focuses on them. I generalized buffers like LFB, MAB and MHB to L1-buf
and L2-buf.
The rest goes to 'memory' field which can be RAM, CXL, PMEM, IO, etc.

This is an actual example of the he_mem_stat based sample breakdown. It
uses 'mem_op' field of union perf_mem_data_src which means memory
operations.
It'd have basically 'load' or 'store' which can be useful if PMU doesn't
have separate events for them like IBS or SPE. In addition, there's an
entry in case load and store happen at the same time. Also adds entries
for prefetching and execution.

This is a preparation for later changes to support mem_stat output. The
new fields will need two lines for the header - the first line will show
type of mem stat and the second line will show the name of each item
which is returned by mem_stat_name().
Each element in the mem_stat array will be printed in percentage for the
hist_entry and their sum would be 100%.
Add new output field dimension only for SORT_MODE__MEM using mem_stat.
To handle possible name conflict with existing sort keys, move the order
of checking output field dimensions after the sort dimensions when it
looks for sort keys.

Add a logic to account he->mem_stat based on mem_stat_type in hists.
Each mem_stat entry will have different meaning based on the type so the
index in the array is calculated at runtime using the corresponding
value in the sample.data_src.
Still hists has no mem_stat_types yet so this code won't work for now.
Later hists->mem_stat_types will be allocated based on what users want
in the output actually.

This is a preparation to support multi-line headers in 'perf mem report'.
Normal sort keys and output fields that don't have contents for multi-
line will print the header string at the last line only.
As we don't use multi-line headers normally, it should not have any
changes in the output.

It turns out that the output fields didn't consider the hierarchy mode
and put all the fields in the same level. To support hierarchy, each
non-output field should be in a separate level.
Pass a pointer to level to output_field_add() and make it increase the
level when it sees non-output fields.

This is useful for hierarchy output mode where the first level is
considered as output fields. We want them in the same level so that it
can show only the remaining groups in the hierarchy.

Factor out a function to get the name of member field at the given
offset. This will be used in other places.
Also update the output of typeoff sort key a little bit. As we know
that some special types like (stack operation), (stack canary) and
(unknown) won't have fields, skip printing the offset and field.
For example, the following change is expected.
"(stack operation) +0 (no field)" ==> "(stack operation)"

Add record/report --latency flag that allows to capture and show
latency-centric profiles rather than the default CPU-consumption-centric
profiles. For latency profiles record captures context switch events,
and report shows Latency as the first column.

Latency output field is similar to overhead, but represents overhead for
latency rather than CPU consumption. It's re-scaled from overhead by dividing
weight by the current parallelism level at the time of the sample.
It effectively models profiling with 1 sample taken per unit of wall-clock
time rather than unit of CPU time.

Add parallelism filter that can be used to look at specific parallelism
levels only. The format is the same as cpu lists. For example:
Only single-threaded samples: --parallelism=1
Low parallelism only: --parallelism=1-4
High parallelism only: --parallelism=64-128

Add an accessor function for tp_format. Rather than search+replace
uses try to use a variable and reuse it. Add additional NULL checks
when accessing/using the value. Make sure the PTR_ERR is nulled out on
error path in evsel__newtp_idx.

Currently the libtraceevent's found by pkg-config, which give the
include path as:
[root@localhost tmp]# pkg-config --cflags libtraceevent
-I/usr/local/include/traceevent
So we should include the libtraceevent headers directly without
"traceevent/" prefix. Update all the users.

Sometimes it's useful to organize member fields in cache-line boundary.
The 'typecln' sort key is short for type-cacheline and to show samples
in each cacheline. The cacheline size is fixed to 64 for now, but it
can read the actual size once it saves the value from sysfs.
For example, you maybe want to which cacheline in a target is hot or
cold. The following shows members in the cfs_rq's first cache line.

Some sort keys are meaningful only in a specific mode - like branch
stack and memory (data-src). Add the mode to skip unnecessary ones.
This will be used for 'perf mem report' later.
While at it, change the prefix for the -F/--fields option to remove
the duplicate part.

It's expected that both hist entries are in the same hists when
comparing two. But the current code in the function checks one without
dso sort key and other with the key. This would make the condition true
in any case.
I guess the intention of the original commit was to add '!' for the
right side too. But as it should be the same, let's just remove it.

Add reference count checking to struct dso, this can help with
implementing correct reference counting discipline. To avoid
RC_CHK_ACCESS everywhere, add accessor functions for the variables in
struct dso.
The majority of the change is mechanical in nature and not easy to
split up.
Committer testing:
'perf test' up to this patch shows no regressions.

Add weight1, weight2 and weight3 fields to -F/--fields and their aliases
like 'ins_lat', 'p_stage_cyc' and 'retire_lat'. Note that they are in
the sort keys too but the difference is that output fields will sum up
the weight values and display the average.
In the sort key, users can see the distribution of weight value and I
think it's confusing we have local vs. global weight for the same weight.
For example, I experiment with mem-loads events to get the weights. On
my laptop, it seems only weight1 field is supported.
$ perf mem record -- perf test -w noploop
Let's look at the noploop function only. It has 7 samples.

weight value separately. Also note that the first entry has 3 samples
with weight value 38, so they are displayed together and the weight
value is the sum of 3 samples (114 = 38 * 3).

Support data type annotation with new --data-type option. It internally
uses type sort key to collect sample histogram for the type and display
every members like below.

For simplicity it prints the number of samples per field for now.
But it should be easy to show the overhead percentage instead.
The number at the outer struct is a sum of the numbers of the inner
members. For example, struct cfs_rq got total 13 samples, and 2 came
from the load (struct load_weight) and 1 from h_nr_running. Similarly,
the struct load_weight got total 2 samples and they all came from the
weight field.
I've added two new flags in the symbol_conf for this. The
annotate_data_member is to get the members of the type. This is also
needed for perf report with typeoff sort key. The annotate_data_sample
is to update sample stats for each offset and used only in annotate.
Currently it only support stdio output mode, TUI support can be added
later.

The symoff sort key is to print symbol and offset of sample. This is
useful for data type profiling to show exact instruction in the function
which refers the data.

The typeoff sort key shows the data type name, offset and the name of
the field. This is useful to see which field in the struct is accessed
most frequently.

Add child member field if the current type is a composite type like a
struct or union. The member fields are linked in the children list and

The 'type' sort key is to aggregate hist entries by data type they
access. Add mem_type field to hist_entry struct to save the type. If
hist_entry__get_data_type() returns NULL, it'd use the 'unknown_type'
instance.

The cycles info is only meaningful when sample has branch stacks. To
save the memory for normal cases, move those fields to a new 'struct
annotated_branch' and dynamically allocate it when needed. Also move
cycles_hist from annotated_source as it's related here.

we can instead just do a pointer comparision.

Modify struct declaration and accessor functions for the reference
count checkers additional layer of indirection. Make sure pid_cmp in
builtin-sched.c uses the underlying/original struct in pointer

Using accessors will make it easier to add reference count checking in
later patches.
Committer notes:
thread->nsinfo wasn't wrapped as it is used together with
nsinfo__zput(), where does a trick to set the field with a refcount
being dropped to NULL, and that doesn't work well with using
thread__nsinfo(thread), that loses the &thread->nsinfo pointer.
When refcount checking is added to 'struct thread', later in this
series, nsinfo__zput(RC_CHK_ACCESS(thread)->nsinfo) will be used to
check the thread pointer.

James Clark noticed that the recent 63df0e4bc368adbd ("perf map: Add
accessor for dso") patch accessed map->dso before the 'map' variable was
NULL checked, which is a change in logic that leads to segmentation
faults, so comb thru that patch to fix similar cases.

Addresses of two data structure members were determined before
corresponding null pointer checks in the implementation of the function
“sort__sym_from_cmp”.
Thus avoid the risk for undefined behaviour by removing extra
initialisations for the local variables “from_l” and “from_r” (also
because they were already reassigned with the same value behind this
pointer check).
This issue was detected by using the Coccinelle software.

Later changes will add reference count checking for struct map, with
dso being the most frequently accessed variable. Add an accessor so
that the reference count check is only necessary in one place.
Additional changes:
- add a dso variable to avoid repeated map__dso calls.
- in builtin-mem.c dump_raw_samples, code only partially tested for
dso == NULL. Make the possibility of NULL consistent.
- in thread.c thread__memcpy fix use of spaces and use tabs.

Introduce functions to access struct maps. These functions reduce the
number of places reference counting is necessary. While tidying APIs do
some small const-ification, in particlar to unwind_libunwind_ops.

The earlier commit f0cdde28fecc0d7f ("perf hist: Improve srcfile sort
key performance") updated the srcfile logic but missed to change the
->cmp() callback which is called for every sample.
It should use the same logic like in the srcline to speed up the
processing because it'd return the same information repeatedly for the
same address. The real processing will be done in
sort__srcfile_collapse().

Add 'simd' sort field to visualize SIMD ops in 'perf report'.
Rows are labeled with the SIMD ISA, and the type of predicate (if any):
- [p] partial predicate
- [e] empty predicate (no elements in the vector being used)

Many platforms have feature of adjacent cachelines prefetch, when it is
enabled, for data in RAM of 2 cachelines (2N and 2N+1) granularity, if
one is fetched to cache, the other one could likely be fetched too,
which sort of extends the cacheline size to double, thus the false
sharing could happens in adjacent cachelines.
0Day has captured performance changed related with this [1], and some
commercial software explicitly makes its hot global variables 128 bytes
aligned (2 cache lines) to avoid this kind of extended false sharing.
So add an option "--double-cl" for 'perf c2c report' to show false
sharing in double cache line granularity, which acts just like the
cacheline size is doubled. There is no change to c2c record. The
hardware events of shared cacheline are still per cacheline, and this
option just changes the granularity of how events are grouped and
displayed.
In the 'perf c2c report' output below (will-it-scale's 'pagefault2' case

The Retire Latency field is added in the var3_w of the
PERF_SAMPLE_WEIGHT_STRUCT. The Retire Latency reports pipeline stall of
this instruction compared to the previous instruction in cycles. That's
quite useful to display the information with perf mem report.
The p_stage_cyc for Power is also from the var3_w. Union the p_stage_cyc
and retire_lat to share the code.
Implement X86 specific codes to display the X86 specific header.
Add a new sort key retire_lat for the Retire Latency.

Switch HAVE_LIBTRACEEVENT_TEP_FIELD_IS_RELATIVE to be a version number
test on libtraceevent being >= to version 1.5.0. This also corrects a
greater-than test to be greater-than-or-equal.
